If you do BAT - be prepared to interact every day with the bidders - they start getting pissy if they ask questions and don't get an answer quickly!

For the longest time BJ would not accept a reserve. Most of their auctions still don't but some of the big boys would not list the real high dollar stuff with them so they started a few year...
Your buddy's issue wasn't some sort of collusion, it was he listed at a no reserve auction and there were no retail bidders in the room that wanted his truck.
Those guys were probably dealers that were going to resell the trucks.

BAT could be a good option as others have mentioned... However, I often see cars re-listed because of buyer failure to complete the sale.
