    Keeping up with Lenmann

So Lenmann over in the classic boat section, has been creating some pretty bad ass stuff. I really liked his dropforged, parting line, closet hook, transom blocks. So in keeping up with Lenmann, I had to come up with something different for a transom block. I called these blocks “D”blocks. In...

Very clever technique. I like his bench top machines. Even 4th axis!

    Material racks don’t make money

About 15 years ago I built a really Bitchin material rack for our shop. Before that, we would store material vertically in the corners of our shop. One corner for aluminum, one corner for steel, etc. Now that the shop floor space is becoming scarce, it’s time to take a second look at that...

    Early Christmas present

I believe this was an effort to turn manual handle turning machinists into CNC machinist. They were also sold to university’s and trade techs. And I believe this is the reason the machine doesn’t have all that much wear on it. And something that supports that belief is it uses Bridgeport T-nuts...

    Early Christmas present

It’s alive! Got communication set up going on it and I am running a test program. Also in the second picture I’ve got the fog buster set up on it which is a spray mister that’s not supposed to fog up your shop. We will see.

    Early Christmas present

It’s a 30x14 and can be either Cat40 or my machines which are BT40. It can use either one because of no tool changer.

    Early Christmas present

I’ve been looking for one of these for a while now. Bought this one from a friend of mine. No tool changer, no enclosure, and no flood coolant. It has very low mileage. But it uses all my standard tooling and uses the same postprocessor as all my other machines. So basically it’s just a plug and...

    Sciatica

My sciatic contributors are salt, sugar, and red meat. As soon as I figured this out, the only time I have sciatic issues is when I cheat on my diet.

    Sand Core Mold

Those are milling step over passes ( Kellering). Using a ball nose end mill, the machine ramps down one side and up the other side like a skateboarder on a (half pipe I think it’s called) while moving over around .015 per pass looking like threads.

    Sand Core Mold

If you look at the far end of the long channel you will see a smaller channel that is 3/8 in diameter when both halves are bolted together. That is where the sand is poured in. At the other end of the channels both long and short you’ll see a horseshoe shaped notch that act as a vent. So they...
