I'm looking for a diesel 3/4 or 1 ton truck to make a cross-country trip with a 12-14k trailer and serve as a shop truck there.

I just put up our Colorado shop truck, 2003 F250 gasser for sale. I was (is) a fantastic, cheap, reliable truck. (Listed in classifieds here, if you're interested) ;) I wish I could find another in the same condition but it'd been difficult below $20k.

At this point I'm thinking only the 7.3, 5.9, or 6.6, but they've all racked up 200-300k miles by this point. I really don't want to deal with the piss tanks and emissions drama.

Does anyone have something they've been thinking about letting go? Know of anyone? I wish I didn't sell my 5.9 from years ago :rolleyes

As long as the body isn't rotted out i would have no issues with a 200+ thousand mile 7.3 or 12v cummins. Even a duramax i would be fine with as long as the water pump and injectors have been done (LB7/LLY) or you can negotiate that in to the purchase price.

Budget will have a lot to do with your options.

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 7.3 Diesel 4x4 Limited, I am the second owner and have all service records from day one. It has 112,000 miles and looks and runs like new inside and out, Loaded with every option, leather, dual air, etc. Would probably sell if for $27,000.00

there is a guy up here selling a 96 flat bed with 4wd and a 5 speed. it has a bunch of miles, but runs like a top. its a 7.3 psd. would be a great farm truck.

I think he wants like 2500 for it. its ugly, but it runs good.

Are you thinking of resale or hanging on to it?

Tradesman Rams 2500/3500 Cummins are pretty damn cheap at Huntington Beach ram. Wanna say very low 30's plus you get 100k warranty.

Edit: super cheap non 4x4 but I wouldn't buy a truck without 4wd

Damn near twins!! :D

Mines a 96, 12 valve, 3500 4x4 but a DRW. I've got the same mileage as yours too. I don't think I'd sell mine but you know the phrase....... "For the right price, everything is for sale!" :D

...Took me four years to find mine ..:I finally found one in 2006 ... bought it sight unseen out of the back woods of Alabama while I was living in Oklahoma... The seller was dead on in his description of it ...

Just this weekend I sold my 95 F350. It was very clean and only had 105k on it. Took $9500, they are out there.

Here's a few I saw with a quick search. Since you said beater, I only looked for manuals. They live through just about anything:

05 Dually Flatbed, 219k but looks clean: https://classifieds.dieselsellerz.com/diesel/truck/7x4o9z

98 12v flatbed, 162k: https://classifieds.dieselsellerz.com/diesel/truck/7m833x

More of a beater, 159k: https://classifieds.dieselsellerz.com/diesel/truck/73nmq5

Cheaper, std cab 3500 SRW, 156k: https://classifieds.dieselsellerz.com/diesel/truck/612qo4

Finally, my choice (although I'm not a fan of black): 2004 3500 SRW, 120k. Last model before a cat / best mileage of the 5.9 common rail (quiet motors): https://classifieds.dieselsellerz.com/diesel/truck/6ypp48

I would sell this for the right price.

1995 7.3 Diesel, 4x4, Manual Transmission, 108,000 Miles, Not a typo One-Hundred Thousand

Brand new tires as of yesterday, and $3000.00 worth of maintenance and leak fixes this month. I have the receipts.

2003 F250 XLT 7.3 auto 4x4 about 165,000 miles. I bought the truck new in 04, motor is stock and trans is original. I'm on the fence about selling it, keep talking myself out of it with help from other 7.3 owners here. BUT, you never know. PM me if your interested. I don't need to sell it, but for the right number I would probably let it go.....maybe. 20160905_132258.jpg

I have a 7.3 with 206k and wouldn't hesitate to take it cross country. It is a great truck and other than an alternator issue never left me stranded. Have had it for 10yrs.

When you say beater you should clarify what you consider "beat". This to me looks like something that is lightly beat, but could be fixed up relatively cheap compared to what you get. Probably has some under body rust and rainbow / Feel The Burn / pro LBG@#%)^* type stickers on it that once removed wont buff out but who cares, it's a beater.

https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/6059034075.html

Then you have odd ball "beat" rigs like this, mechanic special if you will...

https://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/6034415777.html

Or some POS like this -

Orrrr.... if your looking for something for local commutes for business, this one might work. 2009 Dmax for under 10K? Sell the top to the local dog catcher for 500.00 and the price is only 7K. Ton of miles, but it's a work truck. If it breaks, light it on fire and walk away.

...yes pics please...

I am in the San Fernando Valley and the truck is in a hangar at the Havasu airport. I will call the FBO tomorrow and see if I can get them to take a few pictures for me.
Here is a copy of the window Sticker so you can see how it is equiped. It is white (original factory paint) and gold trim (standard Limited color scheme).

Lol, I'll clarify: an older ugly truck that will cross the county a couple times without making me wonder if I'll get there or not.

Even with the diesel I can't image the drivetrain etc could hold on for 200k miles without wanting to kill itself.

Yes! Need a turbo though, right? How do the non turbo motors get along?

I think e4l has like 347k on his 7.3 I would want to know history though as the transmissions are a weak link. Like I said I bought mine with 126k on it 10yrs ago put in a new built trans and injectors around 140k. It should be good for awhile. If you look and someone has good records I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 200k

Just FYI, that's why I suggested a manual Dodge. My 2001 has been over 500hp/1100ft-lbs since 2004 (bought it with 39k miles, it's at 192k now). Only thing it needed was a clutch to handle the power when I turned it up, and at 125k needed a second clutch. It was my daily driver until the end of 2015. I've not had to touch anything else other than oil maintenance. Dana 60 front, Dana 80 rear. 241HD transfer case.

You can push it faster then it will accelerate, but it will run forever.

Its a 185 hp, but ~375 ftlb torque.

Had one for years, put a gear vendors on it and it got low 20s mpg. The turbo only adds 10 hp and lije 40 ftlb torque, not worth it.

I would buy anthoer in a heart beat.
