in my Daytona, I just hold 50+ mph and go strait up from the
Lake about 150’ or so from the east side of the island. It looks shallow, but I think I only need about12-18” of water at speed, I’ve never had a problem, I have followed the big blue battle star galactica tour jet( that’s what my kids named it years ago) heading out once, near the island he swings way over to the Az side, then cuts across diagonal to go in front or just south of the island.

What do you guys do in say a 28’+ deep V?

I run about 1/4 mile off the shore on the AZ side, then cut in toward the island and follow the deeper water. You can see it with polarized glasses. If the lake level is high i'll sometimes take the no-wake channel, but that sucks when it's hot out

I head towards the reed island at a slight angle from the California side then wrap around the island headed toward the AZ side. Running 50-75' on the east side of the island.

So basically you and I are doing the opposite and coming together at a 45 as we hit the mouth of the river lol....

Pretty much! I prefer to stay out of the river on the weekends so traffic is usually not an issue.

I follow someone in a bigger boat.
I did that about 20 years ago, then he ran aground, I could have run into the back of him, but I had to be a asshole and stay on plane, and go around him so I didn’t tear something up or off, I’m sure my wake focked with him. I had to make a quick move, I chose to go..

It’s a pretty simple path

head towards the buoy side then at the last min I turn right to hug the island on my left side.

just leave enough room for a south bound boat.

I typically look for the boat that is stuck or the person standing up and generally go the opposite way

We hit ground there in April in a 20' spectra i/o . I always thought as long as I was on the right side of the island entering the river we'd be good. Turns out I was incorrect. Vessel assist guy waited for us to push boat back out then showed us a line to get through but the wife was spooked by then and made me head back to the springs. It was on a Tuesday and we were super stoked for a quiet ride up the gorge .

I love these threads.... Its like ground hogs day in here sometimes!

The sands change every year.. the only constant is hugging the island.

The bonwake zone deal is done.. I tried going through there and ended up stuck the other day.

Same here, I did find that if you hug the island on the no wake side you can make it

The buoy side is great of you want to take an extra 15 - 20 min to idle through - can't go on plane. No wake speed.

I'm never in a hurry, don't mind the extra time. It sounds like that side is not a viable option anymore.

Same line we have always taken. I will never forget it was maybe 2006 or so and we were running about 40mph and some dudes in a Sea Ray went to right of us (right of that green line someone drew on the AZ side) at what had to be top speed. Next thing we saw is a rooster tail of mud then the boat looked like it hit the brakes. Two guys flew off the bow. We slowed down to see if they were ok and the two guys that flew off the front stood up in about 4" of water. Lucky they were all ok. It was funnier than shit though!!!

I towed a guy down from the sandbar so of course I went nonwake...sure as shit turned up brown in a few spots and damn near got stuck. they really need to dredge it yearly.

This is my route, but it is sketchy going up this way at 2 PM on a Saturday with other non sober drivers heading back.

That’s the line we take. Down river is not a problem but as you mentioned heading up river in the afternoon can be scary when you come around the bend and get a good look at what’s coming at you. Last time we went up river two boats were about right in the middle of the line forcing us to hug the island side going up river. Bummer about this line is by the time you pop around the corner your committed, if you stop right there you might want to get your gondola stick out!!

it's not the mouth of the river that's a problem, it's about 100yrds past that on the right hand side that is shallow. I sandblasted my prop a few weeks back there, I just trimmed up and gave it a little more gas and was ok.

Sunset that's the best line for all size boats! As for me I trim it high and let it fly because I only need 1 1/2 feet of water under the mini to fly pass.... "SO DON'T FOLLOW ME AT THAT SPOT"!!!
18'' is pretty deep..

This is the most accurate path right now. Right next to the island is a pretty big sand deposit that has pushed the line out some. I choose to start further to the CA side though so that I can look up the no wake zone before I cross along the bottom of the island. You can get a pretty good sight line for timing traffic coming down.

As for re-entering the lake going south, I follow the same line leaving the river right now and point myself to the casino until I pass that big sand deposit in the delta. It is really wide right now.

See you all in the gorge! Love that part of the river.

I see everybody takes a specific line going up river. But coming back most people go straight thru.

shits way too dangerous, better off staying in the channel.

There is nothing good up there anyway, plus I heard there is those brain eating parasites in the water north of the Lake anyway. Its best to just stay away, I also heard that there were pirates up there that have taken over peoples boats, Captain Phillips style.

By the end of the day there is plenty of water flowing. Unless you come back really late let's say after 10pm. Flow is reduced by then and water is low

I agree, peps should stay away, it’s not safe up there
