The older Eliminator eagle 236 has the same bottom as the 25 eagle.

I saw the Lavey 21 a few weeks ago and that is a very large 21.

With the large wind rollers you are out of luck with this size of boat anyway. My boat was much better than buddies 23’ tunnel and Even many larger cats out there as we went across the lake in the Father’s Day wind storm.
Yep, you nailed it!

22 Velocity...
I agree... 22 Velocity or Howard Offshore 22. Donzi 22 would be nice also. Here is a 22 Velocity.

Dude!
You can’t just say something like that and leave it at that.
Spill a bean or two.
Nothing makes me more happy than hearing more people are going to start building boats.

Neither of those are great rough water boats..

Although a 21 Daytona can run through some pretty big consistent wind chop
I realized that after that post.....but I re-read the original post.....and it didnt state anything to do with ability to handle rough water....he said punch up from the others......so I based my response on performance or speed and hull efficiency.:D;)

I had a 1997 21 Laveycraft XTC and used it in the ocean a lot, sold it in 04 and it had zero stress cracks, rattles, or problems. Took it to Catalina 5 or 6 times, Channel Islands over a dozen times and drove the boat pretty hard, the design of the bottom and the deep cockpit make it a relatively dry ride. If I had room for a third boat I'd have another 21 Lavey.

I had a Laveycraft 21XTski(open bow) she ran pretty damn good for a 21' boat thru some of Lake Tahoe's worst and never had stress cracks or anything come loose. Lavey thru-bolted everything w/nylock nuts & dabs of silicone on top, no screws. It's durability and ride were proven running down Eastern side of Tahoe past Zephyr to Keys in afternoon rough conditions(anyone who's done it will vouch it's bad) Running alongside a 25 Eagle & 24 Baja Islander, the 3 of us took a beating, them more so. At the keys house afterwards, everyone had sore ass or kidneys and the Eagle's hatch was loose & missing hardware, the Baja batteries had to be remounted and it's removable pole table was broken with a passenger's ribs that got bounced on it. The Lavey held up good even when we didn't.

I used to own a 20.5' mod-V tunnel Eliminator, and it punched WAY above it's length in the the waters of Green Bay and Lake Michigan up to about an honest 3 foot day. On plane the air in the tunnels held the boat on top of the chop. Passengers couldn't believe the ride quality. It was amazing. I believe a Schiada RT would be similar, but have not ridden in one.

However... If the conditions got any bigger than 3 feet, and I had to drop below planing speed, I was screwed. The super low freeboard meant I was in danger of being swamped. A deep V, like a Donzi, Baja, or Scarab, with more freeboard, is not as fast, or have the magic air ride of a tunnel, but can more easily and safely find it's way back to port in rougher water than a tunnel.

Also, if I knew I was frequently going to be in big water with a small boat (say, under 27') I would not get a bow rider. A closed deck can save the your ass if things get really rowdy.

Lastly, those funny looking reverse angle windscreens you see on daycruisers from back in the day work great. They deflect a lot of the water coming over the bow, keeping it off the passengers.

I've heard the eliminator 234 edge does well in rough water also.

That's for sure. A wave coming into the open bow and leaving a few inches of water running across the carpet is a scary moment!

Ok, they raced in the first OPA event back in May so I was wondering. They have not raced since.

Wow, no mention of the 21 Skater or splashes? That boat rides like 24ft plus boats in some of the roughest stuff, can do well over a 100 with a single. Definitely not a great family boat though.

I couldn't believe some of the rough stuff I was out in on ours (Mead and Havasu).

I have done that many times and it is bad. Once in a 20.5 ft low profile bow rider.

Howard 23 Offshore.jpg

The Howard 220 Offshore is very different from the 23 Offshore (pictured here). The 23 is quite a bit smaller, but I can't image anything in it's class that handles big water better. Definitely sacrifice interior space, it's narrow in order to get the deadrise in such a small package.

Is that your boat? Do you have any shots of the interior space available? Love the lines of that hull

Wife was pissing me off last night.......almost put my 22 Offshore up for sale. Had the post made and everything......then deleted it.

I LOVE the 23 OffShore!! @djunkie used to have one, I think. Such a cool looking boat.

It was a great boat. Just had no room inside it.

Yes.

The photos below are from quite a few years back, before modifying it for Catalina Ski Race and basically going through the entire boat.

Cool boat wen't good through the rough stuff. 4 people and a couple coolers felt like a cramped boat:)

4 people was perfect. But still no room to move around much. That boat ran good for its size and power.

Looks like you could get 5 with skinny friends?
We had 6 in it during Desert Storm last year... Wasn't planned, just didn't want to leave friends on the beach. Ran from the springs up to the channel in rough water with no issues.

I don't know if this would fall in the small boat catagory but the old Spectra 24's crush rough stuff I would bet better then newer boats that are bigger as well. There are several threads on here about them.

How many people can you get in the 210?

Honestly, this video is the one that made me realize small boats are cooler

210 is pretty big inside compared to other boats in the class.

Part of the reason I hit eject on the 21 schiada project was the cabin room and freeboard. 210 feels like a bigger boat than the vector or 21 schiada.

I have always been enamored with small boats that punch above their class in capabilities and now that we are within a few years of having a boat of our own, I want to narrow down what I am looking for so I can be prepared when the time is right.

It seems like the best small boats that have big capabilities are the Hallett 210, Lavey 21 XCS/XTSKI (what's the difference?), Howard 22 offshore, and Ultimate/Warlock 23ft V.

Are there any that I am missing? Any one of these models stand out from the rest? Boat would be used all over, lower river, havasu, needles, mohave, powell etc etc

Wait I thought that boat was the 220 offshore and OSB's boat is a 22 offshore? Howard's naming is confusing as hell.

Howard 22 offshore and 220 offshore = same boat. Supposedly a Schiada 24 with 2 feet lopped off.

Howard 23 or 230 offshore totally different boat, much narrower and taller.

The 22/220 is a physically larger boat than the 23/230.

Closed bow 22 Offshore vs WTOB, different deck too.

Not a river boat so not sure if it counts but I’ve got a 29 Crystaliner that punches up. Lifeguard rescue boat hull that is used as a sport fisher. This pic is from the trip to Catalina after work a few Fridays ago. Was blowing about 20 on the nose. We left late and passed a ton of bigger boats on the way over (pic taken from a Cabo 35 as we passed them) It’s a twin diesel tank and doesn’t pound unless it’s gale force. 13k lbs. Plow through anything at 19 knots...
