Reviving an old DCB F34

I Decided to Ceramic Coat the boat and get a good detail for summer...Turned into an almost complete overhaul!! Ill update as the project moves along.

Would like to see some before and after pics of the interior.
What other items will you be addressing to "revive an old DCB"?

I sent interior to DCB...Carlos, and every person I spoke to at DCB was absolutely amazing. I basically sent him pics of interior, and said do your thing. The guy is a genius!

The shop who pulled the interior for me, and who is also doing all my audio, and led lights made a custom center piece for my GPS screen..,so I kind of threw Carlos a curve ball..,the guy knocked it out the park!!

I’m running a mild set up with N/A 572’s, and Imco/XR lowers.

I’ll post a complete pic review as the project goes along.

I read that the F34 had terrible porpoise that Dcb could never fix, so they dropped it for the F32. Sounds like the bottom can be fixed. Where you going to look into it?
Not trying to be a Debby downer. I love the depth of the tunnel on that boat. Petty close to not even having a center pod.

The F34 I have I’m assuming was fixed...I can see cuts in steps. With that said, I don’t have any porpoise issues.

DCB did all the interior recover, and new front seats. Lightnin Jack Customs did all the removal, and custom center piece, and speaker enclosures. LJC is also doing all electrical from Batteries, charger, switches, audio, leds, and steering wheel, etc. Geaux Preaux Detailing did my paint correction, and Ceramic Coating.

We should have it somewhat complete soon. Stay tuned for pics! Before and after

From what I can tell, and I’m not in any way an engineer of hulls..,but it looks like the cut a small relief step before the first step. It’s kinda at a strange angle too. I’ll take pics later this week.

I have a video of the boat running from 60ish to a little over 100mph with no hop. I do hold drives in maybe a tad longer than I feel is needed, but it works. This is my first Cat style boat, so maybe this is normal? The boat has a tunnel tab also...I do not use it.

Since this is my first cat style boat, and you guys have way more experience, it would be nice to hear the planing/running procedures that y’all feel are basics to a cat.

I’m buddies with the guy he bought it from, he said it had an extremely small hop between 82-85 but it was only noticeable to him as he’s had quite a few different boats, and not only was it barely noticeable but you could drive right through it with the power of the boat. He talked to Dave and a few others at DCB and in the industry and the real issue was mainly with just one of the F34’s and the biggest issue in their opinion was the motors on that boat were set to far forward if i recall correctly. But this actual boat ride and handled amazingly all around.

Interesting, yes most cats hop, for mine, I trim high, go through hop, if it happens, sometimes it’s doesnt, then boat takes a set.

He’s correct..,mid 80’s depending on water conditions I feel it...that’s why I ran through it with drives a bit tucked.

Thanks! I will trim out next time and see the difference. I’ve only ran boat 3 times, so not much to go by. My first instinct when I felt it Coming was to tuck drive a little.

I’ve tried both, found getting more air under it was better, and my thought was the whole idea with a cat was to ride on air, so helping it get there????

They did treat me very well...that invoice doesn’t include removal of interior, custom center pieces, side pieces, rear seat frame, all electronics, and install.

I had an F34 and sold it a couple years ago. Which coincidentally is at DCB getting a new interior now. The more weight I took out out of the bow the better it ran. I made a bunch of rigging changes and that boat was locked in above 60mph.
The only issue with mine was when slowing down under 50 it would plow a little more because the boat was heavy.
Also I think the design of the rear hatch assembly and lines of the boats are in my opinion one of the coolest looking boats around.

Lots of easy things to do to the rigging to make that boat better.

Have fun with it. The F34 gets a lot of looks!

Very cool thread, I've been doing similar with my F32! Love the colors and lines of your F34, great job. The simrad in the middle looks super cool too, very nice integration!

Jeff at Smooth as Glass in Ca did a ton of work on this boat which I believe included all the bottom updates that DCB has come up with to improve that hull.

It’s been awhile...thanks for the comments. This boat runs very well...whoever did bottom work got it pretty close. I still have a tad of bounce when in between power. If I have a chop, she runs flawless.
