looks like something went wrong with the load he was dropping, I think he didn't drop as much as was planned

Target fixation almost got them killed. He went in there with the rear cone speed brakes out and the already engines spooled up. The rising terrain came up fast.

Even when you know what you plan to do (engines spooled up and ready to climb) sometimes it takes just a little longer than expected for the transition to take effect. Sure does up the pucker factor. I came out of altitude in the Gulf war from 5000 AGL in a EH-60 and pulled power to level off at the point where I was playing it safe while worried it might have been too soon to stop the decent and thus not safe from the threat. Leveled off at 15' AGL and was giving a sigh of relief that we did get it leveled off. I can feel that pilot's pucker as it's all in and you hang on and wait for it to respond.

Still an amazing bit of film and flying there.
