Fire buddy who was just called in on strike team says real acreage is 200. Wind is switched back towards itself for the moment.

My son says it is a couple exits away from him on the opposite side of the fwy....he can see the flames, etc. Told him to get a few things ready to go just in case. Seems to be moving quickly now

My sister sent me these over the last few hours. She said wind keeps changing directions but for now they are good. Packed up important stuff just in case. They wouldn’t let me up so hopefully it stays where it is at. News said possible lightening strike caused it?

Drove back on the 15 around 4:30. Got rain and ash. Crazy! We can see the flames from our window right now and we are a good 7-10 miles away.

It was pretty gnarly. Lots of evacuations. All MVUSD schools closed tomorrow. A couple school sites are threatened but it looks to be calming down.

Well, that was fun. I’ve never been on this side of a vegetation fire. It’s going away from my house. The kids and I were watching the thunder storm and all of a sudden we saw a little puff of smoke, then a large header, and it was on!

No wind, I am not that worried,,

I drafted fantasy football, while watching the fire from my front porch..

Houses that back up to Santa Rosa..they need to be soaking down the lawns, trees and houses..

I am about 4-5 rows in... Stucco and tile roofs...

My woories are wind and the 35ft pine trees in my neighbors backyard.

From my bedroom 2 hours ago but it’s calmed down quite a bit since. They just put us under mandatory evacuation but that’s a little silly at this point IMHO.

Were still hanging out but they said if we leave to go to the grocery store or anything we’re not allowed back in. I think the evacuation is just to keep the streets clear so the firefighters can maneuver easily when the need arises without a bunch of onlookers.

And that's the exact shit that happened to us in 07'. Ran out for a few minutes to park a car down the hill at the mall and the mutha-fuckers wouldn't allow us back in to grab our pet cat and evacuation supplies.
There wasn't even a cop or fire engine anywhere to be found when we left, but a fat fucking sheriff was parked at the end of our street when we returned.
Considering my colorful language it's truly amazing he didn't haul me downtown   It's also a really good thing I wasn't armed :p

Lost the cat and house later that day (Much later) :(, but saved the POS car  I'll always carry the regret of leaving and the anger at that fat fucking sheriff.
Now we have no pets and if there's a fire within 20 miles, we just pack and head for Havasu- fuck the house, we're insured and my fire PTSD is very real.

This has been the story of the day. My wife “had” to go to a meeting in Corona. She ended up stuck at the bottom of Los Gatos and Carancho. We ended up leaving the car and I picked her up. Ended up doing the same for my elderly neighbors (85 years old). The CHP even picked them up in the patrol car and brought them up the street to my truck. Now, I’m almost out of beer, so I hope it’s cleared up tomorrow for a supply run!!

It bit through the phos-check this morning, they laid down double this evening, they will have the special night helo on it again, I believe. We had one crew on stand by at about 3 when it took off again. Tricky terrain and that Elisinore effect, which I'd never heard of. The off shore wind will push the fire over the ridge. It then gets pulled downward by the precipitation in the valley... Fire Science... LOL :p Anyway, yes evacs are for FF to maneuver around, not to inconvenience you're view of the fire. The guys that monitor the fire have a good idea of where it's headed and want people out of their fucking way. It's not a specktator sport. Plus, golden rule: life before property. So if you need to be saved because your watching or didn't evacuate, they will stop firefighting efforts to save you. Which causes more havoc.

I happen to do this crap for a job. It’s a bit strange to be on the other side of a wild land fire and I’ve only been in my house since March. That said, Riverside County Fire made a poor choice in how to handle the road closures for a few of their larger tax payers. Trust me, they weren’t easily getting equipment up the 26% grade on Los Gatos. No reason too. They originally had a hard closure up the hill, quite a distance from the origin. Even the CHP guys said it was dumb.
And yes, the Elsinore Effect is legit. Search the Decker Fire of 1959 that killed 6 El Cariso hotshots. It was often a topic of discussion in the camp with the guys when I was on the crews.
