here is some cool machining stuff we do.

First material starts off as a big piece of alum bar

These here are 6”x6”x8” 6061 aluminum bars 12 feet long. We have sizes of these bars from 1”x1”x2” all the way to monsters at 15”x15”x20”.

Next they get cut into blocks and ready for machining

As you can see they have started the machining process.

Some more progress

After many hours, tool changes and setups they start to look something like this

These will end up going on a KC-135 refueling tanker for Boeing. They are the flanges that connect the fuel tanks to the boom on this aircraft to refuel F-35 and F-22 raptors.

Onto to something else.

This is a piece that ends up on a Cessna plane. Not sure what is does. But it’s made from inconel

This here is a cool duct for space rockets. It’s all hand made from inconel and has a lot of man hours into shaping this

It’s a 20” wide duct. This all started from plate that was bent

Very bad ass right there. Pretty sure military/aircraft specs are ridiculous to achieve

Do you weld up the metal hose assemblies?

No way I could be a machinist in today's world. I just can't wrap my head around that 4th dimension. I can see 6"X8"X12' or 6"X6"X12', but that 4th one messes with my mind.

cool. How much does 15x15x20 bars cost? Would love to get my hands on one of those.

Looking at the quality of the parts, equipment and machine work, I just can't help but laugh at the idea I own a tig welder, but seem to use hammers and an old anvil a lot lately:eek:

I'm more on the "trailing edge" of technology ;)
