So we are at a VRBO in Palm Springs. The Nest has turned off the AC. It's getting hot as hell here inside the house. The management company isn't responding to repeated calls.

Can I just disconnect the Nest and connect a couple wires to turn on the AC?

If I were to “test” the air to make sure it works I would jumper r-g-y and this would make the system run until you disconnect those wires.

But as a side note a Nest can’t turn off the air Remotely and not give you the ability to turn back on from the thermostat. Sounds like you have a different issue.

Just noticed a red and yellow on the same terminal. So it's above my paygrade.

R to G and Y1, but its not unlikely the nest burned out the control board on the unit

Does the nest have a lock? Maybe a deeper technicians lock.

It also looks to me like the system is only wired in stage 1 in cooking and heat so it runs in half capacity. (No y2 and no w2=full capacity).

The nest is locked so we cannot adjust the temperature from the stat. I think they're doing it remotely. But at the moment it is just off.

Is the blower fan running? Do they have a box on the condenser from Edison to turn of the A/C temporarily?

It asks for a four digit code. I was hoping just to bypass it.... Go to HD and by a cheapo analog unit?1

Nothing runs. I unplugged the unit for a minute. Tripped the breakers and checked the fuses on the compressor.

Jumper the red to the green see if fan comes on. Then add the red to the yellow also.

Can’t make it anymore obvious as to what you need to do

wire (AC condensor/compressor) to the red/green.... viola. you gots AC..

You can try guessing the password for the nest, I have had surprisingly good luck at past VRBO with locked Tstat. Seems like a lot of people use house number as the password.

By the time we got back to the house, management had supplied the Nest code, and our friends had the place down to 74.

Thanks for the assistance.

I feel its bullshit when the owners lock down the Thermostat in climates that are hot as fuck! I mean, how fucking frugal can the owner be when they are asking gobs of money for the rent anyways. Its like being micromanaged at work.

Hopefully it got cooler than 74. I would not be able to sleep.

Lol no shit, make sure to note it in the review of the property on VRBO.

I mean you can let the air rip for 24 hours, what is it gonna cost? $15 per day? build it into the damn rental fee.
