I don't think it's dead...I do think people want more from a pontoon than a small single 200 outboard. The lower-priced toons don't seem to be moving as fast.

If I lived at the river/Havasu, I'd be on the @Wmc program.

The looks on people’s faces when they getting passed by a pontoon are awesome. Quick, responsive and flat over the rollers at speed while others getting bounced around, slapping butts and breaking backs. [emoji2957]

We had a toon pass our Magic when it was floored. I won’t lie it was a little deflating. My goal now is to stay just ahead of the fastest toon on the water:D

My toon does 0 to 35 in 2.5 lol
I sort of feel bad coming out of a no wake and take off and I'm immediately on plane and I watch the guy in the speed boat trying to make the prop bite and the bow up in the air when I'm already down river
Once I find the right trim I don't even trim down when taking off. Just gas n go

If you consider new boat registrations a good indicator of how the boating business is going (nationwide) -- the boat industry was up 4.4% overall in 2018 over 2017. But things have not been so good in the first half of 2019 according to NMMA statistics. Pontoon registrations are down 4.5% in 2019 while PWCs show a 4.2% increase while wakesport boats are up 2% compared to 2018.

Weren't sales down about 10-15% across the board from 17-18 though?

Didn’t you get the memo that Toons are out of fashion and have been replaced by Center Consoles with quad 450R’s? :D

:D :D

Deflating is an understatement.. I was in my Hallett awhile back and coming back down from Pirates.. I had a toon go by me like I was standing still. LOL I was like WTF? Thing had to be running 70+ as I was doing 50's at the time?

Has any 'Toon owner tried a Apparatus/Appliance/Device to plow and put up a clean wakeboarding wake?
Gotta be something out there.

Can’t remember the brand but there’s a surf toon already

You will get to the point in your life when it doesn't really matter so much for both physical reasons and because you don't need to prove yourself to others.
Pisses me off way more when a fugging waverunner pulls away.:D

Oh I wasn't trying to prove myself to anyone else Ziggy.. LOL I was just wondering if that BBQ was actually cooking shit when they went by me, because I swear I caught a brief odor of brats cooking.. :D

At that point I realized we might need a new toon. :D

Tri-Tip and corn on the cob:cool:
.
The one thing we have considered is an old 30mph beater toon to leave in marina for off-season pinky in the air champagne cruises.:D

My neighbor picked one up for less than an three grand I think. Bought an interior off someone doing a refurb and loves the thing. It's got a small older Johnson and they cruise the shit out that thing while his fast boats sit on the trailers..

I don’t think the toon craze is over yet. The dealers still can’t keep them in stock and I know they can’t build them fast enough for Preston, especially the twin engine builds.

Perspective from the upper Midwest is that the toon craze is no where near over. And I don't think it's a fad at all, because the reason people are choosing toons is function. When boating on an inland lake nothing delivers greater comfort, performance, veratility, and value than a well powered toon. They lose the fashion game, but they win the function game. It just took people a few decades to figure that out.

I know there is a 525 merc powered Playcraft that is sort of for sale

Old school in terms of feature but has to do 70+

The 496HO Playcrafts run 64mph.

Nothing better than hearing a 525 fire up in a toon and watching neighboring boat owner’s faces trying to figure out where that sound came from....

Question for those that have switched from a gel coat boat and big block motor to a toon and one or two OB motors.
What has been the difference in fuel costs?
@tunnel vision mentions he doesn't miss the "fill ups" so I'm curious as to the real change. It is something that @2FORCEFULL also brought up early on when they got Sue'sToon.

We have a 300 Verado on our Bennington. It really depends on how you run the boat. Our boat has a 58 gallon tank, and will easily last the weekend if you keep the rpm's below about 5k (4500 is better). If you are running around above 6K all day, the Verado will drink a lot of fuel. Very efficient though at lower RPM's.

I just sold this beautiful SouthBay today. The composite floor and the 5 year warranty on the Honda engine is what beat out our competitors.

I'm burning approx. 15 gallons of 87 Octane from Windsor to Havasu Springs & back. Running a 27' Poontoon & 250 Yamaha around 4500/4800 rpms on average.

Thanks.
That's probably about what I use on my bone stock 520, one way. Same rpm range.

My 28Q Bennington (heavy) with the 8.2 big block takes aprox 22gals of 87oct to round trip Pirates from Windsor. That is pretty loaded with peeps and supplies. But sooo damn smooth :)

My toon is not fuel efficient at all. 2 Stroke 140 I will burn 25 gallons to run from Windsor to Pirates round trip + 3 quarts of oil. I am not really stressing on speed or style when I am out in my toon. We are having a good time.
