before I even get started I will answer the question. Why a ranger 150 over a RZR 170? Answer is it’s a far superior machine for teaching your kids how to drive.

It has ride command stock.
Geo fences stock. (Set boundaries via gps in your phone and when the car gets to the boundary it stops.)
Electronic speed limiter in my phone stock.
I believe it also has a kill button in my phone stock etc..

RZR 170 doesn’t offer any of that.

I have a buddy looking into whether or not a 170 long travel kit will fit on the ranger now. If it does that would be the first upgrade.

I ordered this one from @Devious_Chris at Devious Motorsports. It should be arriving on the 28th.

Oh boy oh boy!

Kids are going to love it! That is a great way to teach the kids how to drive and also being responsible. So cool to get them out in the dirt!

What’s going on the with new and improved RDP ride? Have you made a choice for your new ride? @RiverDave

Have to monitor this.
Daughter lovers her 90 quad, but like the added protection this offers.

Dont lie to us Dave.. You just got this so the kids could carry yore extra beer. :)

This does look like a better overall machine than the 170. I think the 170 has the speed limiter, but that is it.

Yes and no. Needs harnesses and probably a better window net out of the gate until you can trust the kid(s) to keep their extremities in the car.

True, but that can be done quickly. Harnesses and a simple window net should limit the arm flying out the side risk.
Keep in mind, my middle kid almost died riding a trail quad in the CO mountains. Handle bar into gut; resulted in life flight, 2 surgeries, 9 days in ICU and 13 days in the hospital. The gear my daughter wears now vs what my son wore is night and day.

Agreed. The only real risk with this is being under it if it rolls over on you. These 150/170s aren't super heavy, or super fast anyway. On a ride this winter in our group we had a new, (like 1 mile on it new) RZR 570 with I believe a 13 and 14 year old girls in it. It was on its side in the first 5 minutes on a banked turned on the trail. Both were fine. They both had helmets, and did great the rest of the ride over much more challenging stuff. The 570 was actually very capable, we were all surprised.

This little 150 runs about 30 mph (slight uphill). I was surprised it ran that fast being it has such small displacement.

I want to take it out in the dirt at least once before we start adding shit to it. My son asked me the other night while he was driving it, if I can put music in it for him. LOL

Make them learn to drive it the way it is before you turn it into a 30 MPH couch. ;)

Any updates on this build? It’s time to buy the kiddos a starter utv, and I like the options offered but the lack of aftermarket support disappointing. I’d like to see your plans.

I'm going to make them offroad it a bit, so they enjoy / earn the upgrades.

There doesn't seem to me much of anything out there other than straight up redneck shit for these things.. LOL I need to get through the regatta this weekend, and get my Can Am here and finish paying for that build. After that we will go offroading a few times, and then I'll have someone start building it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I "think" the long travel kit for the RZR 170's will fit on these! That said when you see them side by side next to the RZR.. You'll by the Ranger all day long. It's surprisingly nice.

I’m sure a side by side comparison would favor the Ranger, but finding even one has been a challenge.

With the ranger being dual A-arm and the Rzr single, how does a long travel kit interchange between them? The ride command is in both the ranger and the ace, I don’t understand why Polaris wouldn’t put it in the Rzr too.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the ranger, I’m sure the littles love it.

So back to updating this build.. Apparently nobody has built one of these things yet. The most I have seen is a lift kit with wheels and tires.

There is virtually no information on the web about them either.

Since we have been stuck in the house with quarantine I decided what better time to build this thing.

So I called my wheel guys and told them I want the same wheels as my Can am.

A few months ago I found one dealership that was selling one with them.

The larger wheels and tires require a 2 inch lift. They only make 2. One is by high lifter

one is by RT Pro

8B24D01C-2D68-4D20-870B-4C8543949FCA.png

The high lifter is 135.00 rt pro is 175.
I tried to order the rt pro but they are closed due to the virus and said they “might” start shipping again on April 12.

High lifter is shipping right now.. That said I couldn’t find anyone online running the rt pro and found a few vids of the high lifter.. The fronts appear the same and the backs are different. If the rt pro was is significantly better we can Machine the plates and weld them up to make a conversion during install.

Back when I started this adventure I looked everywhere for doors and randomly came across a set of doors that Polaris makes but they only make them for their Australia market.
Myself and a buddy that has one (he also has a Polaris dealership) looked into getting them but they were ungodly expensive to get them stateside.. and he was going to have to buy in qty.

Last night I tried again to search for doors for this thing and found a company called Rival that makes them in the USA now. On eBay they were 675.00 bucks but found them for a little

I traddd Two thirty packs Of coorslight (covid bargaining) for a pair of PRP harnesses from a buddy of mine.. due to the fact that I didn’t want to touch or open the boxes after he set them in my truck I found out that these are gonna he waaayy too big for this little machine.

so I have a couple seatbelts if anyone wants them.

One is new and one is slightly used.. (I could clean the dust off of it and it would look new)

Safeglow whips sponsored the radius light bar and chase light. I still need to get the whips and under car lighting from them.

I know jeff at jjandaracing.com was making aluminum rear axles for them to free up rotating mass. Not sure if he still is. Shoot him a call and talk to him, he is a great guy to deal with!

Shawn and Susan lived behind me, I was across the road on crosscreek court. They used to make all the hats and stickers for Devious PowerSports before we moved to Tualatin. Small world

Lift kit showed up today. We started putting the doors on. I gotta tell you this door kit is one of the nicest things I have bought for off-roading period.

the first door is on the car.. and it is flat out bitchen. Fit and finish are top notch

On the downside one of the mounts that holds the door was made incorrectly.. I talked to the guy that sold them to me and he said after 25 sets this is the first time he has had a problem with one. Shit happens.

My buddy Jeff is going to cut it all apart and re weld it.

This is the one that is made correctly.

Thst bracket is built pretty hard core andbending it isn’t gonna work.. It needs to be cut and welded back at the right angle.

In the meantime I am searching high and low for this sprocket kit and I can’t find shit on it anywhere..

This takes it from 16 tooth small sprocket to a 12 tooth for more lower end torque.

Lift kit / wheels tires / wheel spacers installed.
Also removed the plastic stuff on the back and tightened the chain.
