Do they compare??? anyone know which is better... I've heard the lavey get to be a hand full after 70 mph,... but so does the Hallett...

Not sure how relevant this is but I had an 80's Lavey "Performance Cruiser" for 20 years or so. Sold it and bought the Sanger V215. The first time out in the V215 I hated the thing compared to the Lavey... This drove me the classifieds where I went and water trialed a Hallett Vector. The Hallett was a lightweight POS compared to the Lavey. It creaked and flexed, had stress cracking all over, etc etc. The layup quality of the Hallett was not even close to the Lavey.

If my wife didnt love to wakesurf we would probably own an XCS...

How much do you want for it? A friend of mine is looking for a 24 but he might consider a 21

That’s the one and only Lavey 21 built that’s fully balsa cored and has a belly tank rather than saddle tanks.

In 97 we went to the boat show to buy a 210 but passed the Laveycraft booth on the way and while looking at the 210 my wife said she’d like to go look at the Laveycraft. We went back and forth between the two that night a bunch of times and set an appointment with Camires for a test drive. We ordered our Laveycraft following the test drive and never regretted it. The Laveycraft feels like a bigger boat than 21 and 300hp pushes it 70 mph. I loved mine and spent many days in the ocean with a bunch of trips to Catalina, even slept on it tied to a buoy over there a couple times.

FWIW my Caliber 1 21 ran 68 on GPS with a 300HP Volvo Penta 5.7. 70 isn’t inconceivable out of an I/O.

The Lavey is heavier 21 with a heavier 454, though.

I added the I/o part. My initial response was you aren't running 70 with 300 hp in a 21 Lavey.

Your Caliber is/was a lighter layup. With a 300hp small block It also did not run 68 gps in the water. On the trailer all day yes :D

That was on the water in October.. but yea that boat was very light. My much heavier Cobra 23 runs 65 GPS with 320 HP in good conditions with low fuel. 60 GPS fully loaded in summer with bimini up.

I test drove a 21 Lavey xcs with a 496ho at Elsinore. It ran past 75mph on GPS. It had more left but I backed off.

Outstanding ride and handling with this hull. Very fun to drive. Handles roughwater very well. It's really like most others 23 foot boats, since Lavey doesn't count the swim step in the length.

The only thing to be careful with on the boat is the Euro swim steps can be slippery. I'd install gater or similar on it.

The lavey with a 300r make a lot strong case for a do everything boat. Lower river to Catalina.
