Can’t wait to see it. Like we talked about before, I’m in the process of starting on my shop/toy barn

I did a steel building in Arizona. Be sure to get it insulated. I installed the biggest 220v window unit Lowe’s sells. It has no problem cooling my 20x30x13 metal building.

The guys at “Big Ass Fan Company” are really great.

https://www.bigassfans.com/

When I do mine, I will also do a combination of swamp coolers and mini-splits air conditioning with heat pumps, cool in the summer, heat in the winter, make sure you have 220 volts for the mini-splits.

We are getting ready to take down 6 big ass fans from a warehouse in Dallas. Customer is closing the location. I'll see what I can get you one for.

Following... as soon as we move to ATL in spring, I will be putting up a 30x50x16 with two 2x14 roll ups on the front wall. Very similar. Did you order up a prefab deal that includes delivery/install? Or having a local contractor build?

Local contractor the prefab deal wornt much different in price and alot different in steel thickness of the building

That's cool man, you're gonna love it. I got spoiled to having one already built at our last place, so when we sold and moved I knew I was gonna have to have another one. Little smaller than my last one, they just wrapped it up about a month ago. 30'x50'x12' with a 10' gable extension for a porch/hangout area, couple of windows in what will be the work bench area, walk-thru door on each end, and 4 10'x10' roll up doors - 3 on front side and one on back to make that one stall a drive-thru. No electricity yet, and still haven't had a chance to organize and start my work and storage area, but nice to have a place for the toys out of the weather.

What kind of time frame did they give you for completion?

I'm in the planning stages of a new building as well - Do you find the 10' wide doors a little narrow for backing boats through? I've been debating on 10' or 12' doors.

About how much do these cost?
I didn't do any shopping around whatsoever so to be honest I can't tell ya if I got boned or not, lol... But I didn't want to have to deal with anything, lining stuff up, hiring people. Just wanted turn key. Mine start to finish was right at 48K and included everything... pad work, concrete, all materials, etc.

It depends on if I have both contacts in or not. :D

Seriously, it's not too bad. Guess it depends on budget and what you may have planned for the building. I initially wanted 12' doors, but couldn't have as many doors as I wanted without going bigger on the shop, so I went with 10' doors. My last shop had 8' doors and it was pretty tight backing trailers in. I got used to it, but the 10' doors are definitely an improvement. Having a "back door" in one bay eliminates the need to back the boat in: open 'em both, drive in, unhook, drive out the other side. I will say I'm storing a friend's boat temporarily and when I backed it in it wasn't a problem at all.

Very cool. I’m in the beginning phases of doing one- 40x50x14’. I can’t wait, and neither can my wife. She wants her garage back. I might do a thread too once it’s close to done. I had help laying it out to trench utilities the other day.

Time frame was less than a month once they got going. We'll see if that is the case

Yes on one of my old buildings that I used how's my boat had 10 ft doors in was not nearly enough room. Barely squeezed the boat and directly. I went with 18 ft wide door for that purpose

It all depends on what you put into it. You can get a regular 30 by 40 shop with no frills for under 20000. My building with the extras and whatnot will be right in the mid-30s

$48K seems reasonable for the size of building. I spent nearly $30K on a much smaller one last year.

10' can be very tight...12' @ a minimum, also make them as tall as you can...I have one 10' door and 2 16' doors in mine and I have scrubbed the 10' door trim more than once when coming home tired and not being lined up perfectly straight..boat is 8'6' wide...

Go with 12' if you have the room, you won't regret it. 14' is even better.

Makes it so much easier especially if you are by yourself ever. Also if you ever have to bring something through at a steep angle to jockey into a corner, that extra couple feet pays big dividends in maneuverability.

Thanks for sharing the build with us hawgty55!

For anyone thinking about this in the future, also think about height of the door. When we built our shop we put in a 12' tall door even thought we didn't have a need for it at the time. Now that we have a pontoon we are so glad we went with the over-sized door.

I love this thread [emoji106]

That’s a good price IMHO.

We’re eyeballing some barndominiums to put on our property, possibly moving my mom into it...and it’ll of course have a big ass garage.

when we moved from Cali my biggest "had to have" was a "big" shop. I was so tired of moving things around just to work on something in my old track house garage. Now I have a 40 x 100 with 6 Rollups and 2 man doors on our property in Texas and its amazing how quickly you can fill it up. Of course now I get to park all my toys and tractors inside so there's that. (Pictures are from before I moved all my stuff in)

Yes as far as this goes the big shop definitely was needed. I think that I have done well for the space that I have. If I would have 15 Acres I obviously would have more room to build a bigger shop but on my land to Big would have been a hurt on the rest of the property.

definitely get that. I would have never guessed I would have one this big. Although it already feels small. The shop is really the reason we bought the property. It has two offices built out with a mezzanine so I can run my business from home so it worked out really well for us. If I would have had it built myself it would most likely be considerably smaller.

Would love to put up something like that here but......I would have a battle from others in the community. Probably gonna sell my place and move soon anyhow. Not much garage space (not what I am used to) at the current property.

Its looks like its coming along nicely.

I like to think so. I never got any other quotes/estimates, so if anything, ignorance is bliss right? lol :p The sale of my house paid for it anyway, so there's that. Which is nice.:D

Listen by no means is meant to be any type of political or California Exodus post. Little things like this though make me love the reason I moved cuz it would not happen in California to wear crew members would leave their thousand-dollar welders and material laying around over the weekend or on a rainy day. Makes me feel and somewhat safe to think that I'm in a crime-free area. No locks no chains just the knowledge of knowing that when they come back on Monday their tools will be there .

Well as of 10-28-19 the building in itself is done. And could be done with a bit more communication between the building supervisor and l.
So it was on me and i procrastinated on ordering the door as it will be a residential style door and it needed 2 weeks in advance to order just placed the order as of 10-19-19. So hopefully the beginning of the following week.

And the lack of communication between the contractor and the electrician i decided to go with a different electrician and hes 2 weeks out. So with that said were under a delay to get completion.

Not sure how much more it would be California I've already heard of people doing it for cheaper here. But one thing that sucks about moving is your connections are lost. People that you knew that did concrete or welding or metal suppliers you don't have any of those. And I wasn't willing to wait and or wanting to get screwed on a joblo builder so I went with a reputable local guy that was competitive in pricing.
