With all the power outage bull shit got me thinking.
Anyway, we access our house strictly through the garage. Two out of three of our cars use fobs that don’t have house key on it.
So I guess I’m gonna put a house key in each car.
I do have a key stashed in the back yard but would be a major PITA getting it.

I usually just use keys, on one occasion I used a skill saw and a pry bar and yanked out a window. But standard keys are usually yore best bet...........

In the car ? I'm guessing if by chance your car was stolen or broken into and the thief found the key and registration or documentation showing your address, he or she would be most pleased :p
I'm old school, have a key on my fobs, in my pocket, wife's is in her purse on the fob. Also helps should your garage door opener take a shit or during a power outage as you mentioned.

Me and my next door neighbor have keys for each other’s houses but might not be home when needed.

I had a decent Masterlock key box on the front entry at the place on Adrian.
Think you probably saw it
Like $35 at Ace.
4 number Combo that you set, no battery or nothing.
I put it up for the EMT’s and health care people, and the cop used it as well when dipshit tried to break in.

Handy devices.

Like this one.

If you live in havasu you don't need a key unless leaving town. I haven't locked my door here unless I am heading to some other state.

If the issue is opening the garage you can install a liftmaster with battery back up. Usually works for 12-20 open and closes as I remember.

If you have a battery backup style garage door opener, you could hide a key in the garage. Other option could be to just ziptie a house key under the dash or seat of the vehicles for emergency.

If all else fails, a baseball seems to break glass just as easy as those firemen's axes:rolleyes:

Go out and buy a new garage door opener...Ca now doesn't allow garage door openers to be sold unless they have battery back up, it's the law.

Lived in our home for almost 20 years and still have no key, but it does snow here...

Get yourself one of these...

71EWqMLxjAL._SL1200_.jpg

Those are a set up waiting to happen.
First time someone sees you use it it’s over.
Key boxes are the way to go.
My stepson tried to chisel into my key box, couldn’t do it.
He tried to pry it off the wall with a prybar, couldn’t do it. Cops took pics of the scarred up wall and keybox.
And it was only a $30 one.

Didn’t realize your key box was that stout.
I’d think a key hidden in each vehicle wold be pretty secure. Unless it’s ransacked somewhere and you address us available.

My wife uses these and the ones with the pad lock style lock on her commercial properties for the stupid brokers. If they can figure out how to use them, we’re all good to go!

It’s 2020. Kids born these days have no idea what a metal object with groves cut in it are.

So 80’s.
I certainly had a spare key in my wallet, for my car anyway.
Its 2020 and you didn't teach your kids wtf a key was?

Its "so 80's"?

Yooooor a part of the "problem"....

Jesus. Figure it out.

Seriously hope you're joking.

Something else I need to buy in AZ now and illegally import.

You probably wash your clothes in the lake with a washboard and keep your meats in barrels of salt too right? :)

Another rant in 3....2...

You west coast guys never cease to amaze me with yooooor antics.....:p:p:eek:

The weather is so great here we have time to worry about all of the other problems in life.

I still use a key for my house. My office out back has an electronic deadbolt so I don’t have to bring a key out there every morning. It works great. I’ve changed the batteries once in 3 years.

I’ll probably put one on the house eventually.

Theres other options out there for "keyless entry", that do not require batteries...

"KABA" makes an analog non powered keyless entry door knob...

They're around 5-700 bucks a throw....

You "program" an entry code into it, and that's it......

I bought a cheap ($16) combo padlock off Amazon that opens up like the expensive realtor ones do and holds keys. It is not as big or heavy duty as a realtor one, but looks more like a regular padlock so I just added a small tab on the side gate of my house and from the driveway it just looks like the lock to the gate. I carry keys as my truck still needs them, but mainly did it because my elderly mom lives with me and if something ever happened and police/fire needed in my house I could just give them the 4 digit code.

That’s exactly why I put a key box on my old house.
The health aide used it once when Deb had fallen down inside, and the cop used it once with his FaceTime going on his phone to look inside the house.
Plus other things like when sister in law needed something in the house while I was gone I gave her the code.
I’d just change the code every time I came home from work every few weeks.
They are handy and safe.
Perfect for what “keyless Brian” needs!

Cant you just plug your house into your car when the power goes out? I mean it is 2019...

None of the cars we actively drive require keys. On that note I have several that still require two though.

I have a key hidden in a second building on the property. If any of you saw my garage, you would realize why I need a house key.

How do you charge your car if the electricity is out?

As mentioned earlier lift master with battery back up. The wall mounted units are nice and quiet
