Sweet, Firefly is open. Take a picture of a Dirty Monkey drink and my wife may have tickets booked in an hour. Seriously good drink.
Actually, were at On da beach.
According to the owner of this place,

He literally just told me that they're one big family here.

Firefly is the command center...

Why didn’t you just take the boat?
This is a recon and security type of trip.

If you dont check in at Nassau, they can literally confiscate the boat.

It's a galactic fuckstory logistically speaking.
4 flights and a boat ride to get here with 275lbs worth of "luggage"......

This isnt going to be the last trip to elbow for me...

Itll be several over the next year at least.

I am really wanting to see how bad things are in the Abacos after Dorian. We had our trip all planned for 2020 till Dorian showed up. Hoping it is still doable but our back up plan is Sint Maarten right now.
Any advise you guys have for a July 2020 trip would be great once you get there and can see for yourselves.
Thanks in advance.

You don’t want to see how bad it is, I’m not kidding when we took the cab ride from the airport to the ferry dock thru Marsh Harbour I almost threw up, it bad, way worse than any pictures

Outta curiosity........how much is a pack of smokes there?
There aren't any. I bought em along.

There any any open stores, theres very limited housing, it's pretty much a warzone, and I'm not making light of that.

Other than the eastern looking view, it's a big mess of busted plywood, sunken boats, brown vegetation, lots of sand that is in places where it isnt supposed to be.

The people here are doing what they can with what they have. Every day the sun rises. Every day a new shipment of supplies shows up.

How do you wipe your ass with wet toilet paper?

It's like that dooode...

This isnt quite ready to be paradise again.

In a few weeks, itll have a glimmer.

In a couple months, itll start to have a shine.

A year out, itll GLOW.

I haven't been on this island for 6 hours and I already have discerned that the PEOPLE here do not have QUIT in their vocabulary.

Its inspiring.

For me it wasnt the sights. It was the smell.

There have been fires in marsh harbor in the last few days.

The odor of a house fire resonates.
The odors of "decay" are unavoidable.

It's pretty fucked...

So they are burning the bodies or what is the method? With as much destruction as was described and that sandy environment I figured it would take quite awhile to find the ones that remained on land.

Enough for one day.

I've got a list of stuff to do tomorrow.
I'll be needing some sleep.

I told Heidi earlier today I questioned if you would have anyway to communicate online. Shocked you are able to post. Good luck tomorrow.

Sounds like you may have flown into Treasure Cay Mike. Does that sound right??

Yes, I think that’s it. It was ten years ago. We had a condo on I think Banyon Beach, they had a neat little beach front bar and burger shack, with great Cuban cigars. That golf course is the one the kids tried to destroy (both under 16 years) and that little harbor has a nice bar with a band or disco music.

I wonder how it is now?

Treasure Cay took a big hit with that storm. We were in Treasure 2 years ago and I'm glad we went. It was amazing, but it will be a long time before it looks the same. Most of the condos on the marina side are total losses, and many of the homes directly on the Sea of Abaco are significantly damaged. It's too bad. The bar in the harbor is gone and only the pool remains. It's a complete mess.

I'm really sorry you guys. I was worried it was going to be war zone bad. What's the charity of choice that's doing the most good down there?

What's the availability of building materials? Imagine the cost per bd ft of lumber has got to be insane.

Is the mood light or still fairly heavy? I would imagine it is very different at Marsh.

Was going to make light of your can opener, but after looking at the pics I just can't do it. Be safe. Glad you at least got the house secure for now.

I'm actually surprised that you have Power and Water. Soooo sad. Hopefully it returns to it's former beauty and prosperity before I am too old to enjoy it as Abacos is still a bucket list item for me.

Saw a woman crying today. Wasn't sure what put her over the edge.

Most folks are fairly upbeat, focused on progress.
Never been in that situation, but like any loss of family or life, maybe people just have "lows". A picture or thought pulls you down for a time. Maybe as quick as the tears come, so can a smile.

Being a survivor is both a blessing and a curse.

No shoes in the house please, you’ll get the sand all dirty.
