This thread concerns me that some of you are carrying tampons and pads in your back pockets:D:D:D

Out bow hunting and you happen to have a tampon around? Unlikely.
Tampon was one of the first and most important things in my pack. Dip it in the tank to make a fire if need.be.

Out bow hunting, not so much. In a mall or stadium with an active shooter, good chance I don't have a trauma kit. Good chance a female may be nearby with a purse though. In back country stuff, I usually have QuickClot, gauze, duct tape and saline rinse.

After treating a severely injured victim of a night boat collision (he went through the windshield and aluminum frame, was bleeding profusely, and had compound tibia fracture), my limited onboard first aid kid showed its shortcomings.

The next week I bought this, it was $350. I added epi pens, sterile saline solution in spray cans, several dozen 4" X 4" sterile pads, a suture kit, quick clot, and a serious tourniquet which replaced the strip of cloth in the kit.

I also have a signal kit, which has a flare pistol and flares, orange smoke markers, a mirror, and a distress flag, all in a waterproof container.

It's better to be prepared and not need it than the other way around.

No one mentioned OB kits :D

I carry an extensive kit, I move from car to boat each trip (OC to LHC)

I have two.... just in case of Twin’s.

Tampons are not suitable for traumatic wounds. Next time you have your hands on one unwrap it and see the amount of gauze (or lack thereof) it contains. For large puncture wounds that need to be packed (think gunshot) you are better off packing it with a t-shirt than a tampon.

Alright guys who would be down for an RDP safety training class I would teach basic trauma first aid that can be used while boating and offroading and stuff like bleeding control and I can even teach CPR as there as has been a bunch of changes it on how they do it now I am EMT certified and worked on a 911 rig so I have seen it all

I don't carry much for first aid. But I do carry an ICU charge nurse with me everywhere. ( The better half)

Superglue
It’s so not obvious but superglue with a small tourniquet can save a limb. Or stop/slow serious blood loss

I have a basic safety kit, but I think my tourniquets are the most needed if something goes bad. One time on my 21’ Daytona, I ran over my own anchor line, a buddy jumped in to help, I warned. Him that prop is sharp, wel......25 stitches later, his
Hand was put back together, I was glad I could stop the bleeding.

Basic first aid kit from amazon.. After that 911..

It took about 30 minutes for cops and EMTs to show up at the remote and little used ramp where we towed the sinking boat after the collision. I have no way of knowing if the guy would have died from loss of blood by then if I hadn't been there, but it was the most severe bleeding I had ever seen.

Sometimes preparedness and prompt actions are all there is separating life from death. I'll get right in the middle of the shit show if I can do anything to help someone.

One thing I haven’t seen listed- PPE. Get some latex or nitrile gloves, a lot of them, so you can share. Use eye protection too. It would be awesome if more peeps would get some basic first responder level training and cpr. As a paramedic, I carry a shit ton of stuff. There’s nothing worse than having the ability to do something but not having anything. Even an ER trauma doc can only do so much without tools and equipment. It’s also very beneficial if someone has the ability to give a good size up to 911 to pass on to incoming units. It allows us to get more ambulances or airships started to help speed things up. It’s crucial to get a legit trauma patient to a trauma center with in the first hour.

I'm not in area, but I'd be down for watching some those you tube videos you mentioned posting.

I've got a emergency kit roadside/survival (from wal-mart) in the truck, with water, and granola bars. I should check if it has tourniquets. The boat has a first aid kit, with the tools and flares, we carry a VHF handheld too. My folks had to use the first aid last week. Buddy was staking the boat to the beach with the slide anchor and his hand slipped on the last blow, caught his finger between the stake and slide handle. Busted it open. Had to clean him up and get the bleeding to stop. Ended up having three fractures in the tip of his finger once he got home. Better to be prepared then not.
I cringe reading this. Anchors can be evil when handling and when they are planted firmly in the earth. You can get wounded pretty good just walking around the shallow waters at the sandbar.

Hers one you won’t believe.

A buddy and I are in a very remote area of UT, a good 6 miles from even the slightest cell service. My buddy goes off to take a dump and unknowingly squats next to a bush with a rattlesnake and the snake nails him between his nutsack and his bung hole. He's screaming and can’t walk, so I decided it was best to run to where I could get cell service and call 911.

I’m not the best runner, but I make it about 6 miles and get a call out to 911 and tell them my friend was bitten by a rattlesnake. They get a specialist on the line and he says it’s going to be 90 minutes plus for them to even get to where I am standing. They said to make 2 incisions at the bite mark and suck as much of the poison out as possible. I asked them what would happen if I don’t do that and they said your friend will die!

I wrapped up the call giving 911 my GPS waypoint and started running back the 6 miles up trail, and by now it’s getting dark. I reach my buddy and he’s still alive, but not in good shape. I told him I reached 911 and my buddy asked me what they said. I told him they said you’re going to die.
