Didn't want to hijack someone else's pool thread so I started a new one. Based on recommendations and watching ZX14's build pictures we decided to go with Brian at Desert Storm Pools. We had a basic design in mind that he used to give us a layout that is perfect for our planned usage. They started digging yesterday so I'll post pictures of the build progress periodically.

It looks great so far. :D

Seriously, I hope it turns out fantastic and your family enjoys it for years.

That's a heckuva back yard you have. You should think about building a go kart track. :D

Pretty sure the gymnasium he has for a garage will be doubling in size once the pool is completed!!

Coming along nicely Doug!

Nice, I too dig the pool build threads. I hope to be doing one in a year or 2. I’m always looking for ideas but I have to get the shop built first. Priorities!

Please keep posting updates. We signed a contract with Brian 2 weeks ago. We are expecting to start around the 18th. We are waiting on a permit from the county.

All of the pool digging and trenching for water, elect, gas was completed at the end of last week. The plumber is installing now and we picked colors on friday. Thank you to ZX14 for letting us check out his finished pool. It's hard to get good phone camera pictures with partial sun and shade but here are a couple from the weekend.

Things are moving forward rather quickly. The plumber and electrician have roughed in and rebar is going in today.
Inspection is scheduled for Monday or Tuesday and guniite/shotcrete is scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday.
They don't waste any time.

Plumbing, electrical and rebar is complete and passed inspection on Monday or Tuesday. The plan is to shoot it today or tomorrow. A friend went by yesterday and said that the rain hadn't caused any problems. Looks like the wife and I will be spending Thanksgiving in Havasu since we need to wet the gunite down a couple of times a day for about 8 or 10 days.

Hint for wetting it, with no nozzle on your hose , walk around the pool with the hose on top of the new pool wall and let the water cascade down the wall, you get the best soak that way, don’t worry about filling the pool, they will pump it out before plaster anyway

They have battery operated timers you can hook to your water hose, you could probably set up a sprinkler or 2

Might be buried in the pictures, but not seeing the #8 bond wire that should be encircling the pool and connected to the bond beam in 4 locations. Needs to be in before gunite.

Thanks, they installed it after I took those pictures and before inspection. That would definitely suck to forget.

Gunite happened on Thursday, another smooth operation. We'll be wetting it down for the next week or so. It's really starting to look like a pool, next is to backfill all of the trenches. We're looking forward to watching the tile and travertine get started.

So I've been really busy lately but fit in a quick run to Havasu and back. I got a few night and day shots before heading back.
The perimeter travertine is complete and equipment is installed. The rest of the travertine should be finished early this week and plaster is scheduled for later this week. Looks like it should be filled by the weekend if everything comes together. This has been a pretty painless project and Brian has been great to work with. I'm heading back out in a day or two so I'll post more pictures when I get them.

Desert Storm has completed the equipment, stone and travertine. Everything is looking great! Inspection was yesterday and today they plaster. I can't say enough about the professionalism during this project. We will have a full pool by the weekend.

Very nice.... I think I would have gone a bit bigger on the first step into the pool.... looks small in the picture. Great shape, colors, location.

Looks like it was made small on purpose so that a couple of lounge chairs could fit on the shelf

Make sure the put decorative tiles on the edges of the steps so you can see them. You need some sort of reference to where the stair drops off, its hard to see in the water, especially when your hammered.

Looks great. I have a similar size backyard and this design would be perfect. Where does the water and electric tie into. Is there a new water meter. Is 60-70k a good budget?

They tie directly into your existing water and electric services. Assuming that you're in Havasu, as long as you don't get carried away with extras your budget should get it done. Have your contractor verify that there is enough room in your elect panel if you're not sure, that can be an expensive upgrade in some older homes.

Well the pool is filled and complete. The only thing left is getting the automation running, my fault for waiting too long to pick a internet company. Very few good reviews for most of them. We had a very good experience with Brian at Desert Storm Custom Pools and would recommend him without hesitation.
Merry Christmas
