So I got the artic car spare tire mount for my XX but an having a problem. The rubber puck that the mount screws against to apply pressure to the tire is designed for a stock wheel (small hub) and my aftermarket wheels (large hub) allow the puck to drop straight through the wheel. Any bright ideas how to fix this? I tried to stuff a rag around the rubber to add dimension to it but that didn't work.

How it's supposed to look

Go buy a thick rubber door mat and cut a larger circle out of it and put it under the existing puck. Or maybe get a stall mat and do the same?

I bet a few minutes walking through a wrecking yard would net one out of the trunk of a car... A lot of German cars have a similar disk holding the spares down.

Was my thought too, but the hub bore is really large for a SXS.

I was thinking get a urethane jack pad, they are 5”

I’d just machine a disc out of acetal and use it to clamp.. what’s the outer diameter and inner hole?

So outer diameter of the current puck is 4.75" (exact diameter of the hub) if probably like it to be around 6.5" to get good contact all the way around the wheel.

Photo of what the tool says the diameter of the post is. I just inherited it from my grandpa, not entirely sure how to read it. Help me masheenist. Looks to be just under 1"?

Put the hub cap on the wheel and cut out the center of the hub cap. Or cut a piece of metal or even plywood(spray painted black of course) to inside the recessed area of the wheel with the proper size hole for the puck..

Bunch o' amateurs up in here...

Find some bondo / fiberglass / epoxy resin....something liquidy that firms up after having been mixed. Take that existing adapter and drill some holes through it to give your schmoo something to "bite" into.

find a funnel and use that as a mold for your modified adapter...use tape to seal off the hole, add something to use a spacer to keep the old adapter at the appropriate height so that the major diameter will be suitable on the mold...then pour in your mixed up schmoo, shove the old adapter in there, let everything kick, pull it out, clean it up with a sander and you're done.

Go buy a cheap plastic cutting board and a hole saw the size you want. Two minutes later you have a soft finished stiff circle that will do the job and will out live any XX out there.

To close this out, I found a rubber mat at home depot that would work perfectly.

And cut 2 squares out of it. A little dual purpose, it's soft rubber that can be used as a knee pad or something to sit on if I break something, or they might be useful if I get stuck, throw them under the tires and see if I find a bite.
