DIESEL finally, Colorado diesel.
I know it's been said a few times but just wanted to make sure you're aware that it is not the Colorado babymax diesel right?

Is he experiencing the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st shudder?

Exactly.

Plus a vibration in 8th gear in the highway, almost feels like a tire is slightly unbalanced.
Dealer told him it’s the tranny.

My question is how well will these transmissions hold up vs. the old technology of rear gear ratios?
I’m thinking rebuild costs will be in the Allison rebuild price range ?

At the end i if the day, larger tires would still require a rear gear change...unless folks want to only use 7 or 8 gears out of the 10 available.

Towing super heavy...I’ll still take a shorter rear gear.

I notice when I haven't driven it in a few days and don't let it warm up for 5 min or so it will sometimes do it. I'm guessing he has already had the updated fluid? Torque converter is supposed to be next.

I have experienced any of the other symptoms that other 8 speed owners have.

Yeah he’s waiting for authorization to replace the torque converter.

Interesting stat I just read:
Compared to the all-new Suburban that's coming, the Ford Excursion, the largest SUV ever made, was only about an inch longer and 1.5 cubic feet bigger inside.

Obviously towing leans toward the Excursion, but payload was sorta weak.

For CURRENT (not new) Suburban
Max Payload: 1,900 lbs
Max Towing: 6,300 lbs

For diesel & V10 Excursions
Max Payload: 1,700 lb payload
Max Tow 11,000 lbs

When did Excursion end production?

Wikipedia says 2005 for US market, 2006 for Mexico.

The excursion would likely have a 40k towing capability today lol.

The suburban stats are weak at best for today’s technology. Not many are going to tow with a suburban so I suppose GM spent money where it makes better sense rather than payload.

My wife likes it which really means we’ll be at a dealer the day they hit the showroom lol

I know a lot of families that tow with SUV’s. Kids dogs ect..... trucks sometimes just won’t work. 6300 lbs towing capacity just seems dumb for a big ass suburban.

Agree. If that’s the true number, it’s worse than midsize trucks....

I just looked up tow ratings for 2019 SUV’s

Suburban 2WD. 8300
Suburban 4WD. 8000
Expedition 2WD. 9300
Expedition 4 WD. 9200

I would hope the Suburban at least matches the current model.

I dunno what I was thinking with the ratings I posted...we actually have a current-gen Suburban LOL

At any rate, here’s the whole story straight from the owners guide, takes variables into account like rear-gear etc [emoji106]

We’ve got the 3.08 rear gear.
If I towed heavy with it, I’d consider re-gearing. But it’s fine as-is for our current needs.
