Honestly with an 1835 I would just keep the single carb. Less hassle and it will be a good runner.

Bad ass car BTW.

I think you overestimate my VW knowledge, lol.
Mines sitting here looking about the same 2 years later.
I threw some pipes on it but other than that:confused:
I’m sure @DWC wants to kick my ass:D
Nah, would be bad ass to see it done though. I still call first ride. :)

Hey T & B,

Where are you working at in milpitas? I too thought you lived in Utah, had offroad toys with no
time to use them, and stuff like that, then noticed a few comments about working in Calif.

I live in Campbell which is near Los Gatos. are you staying in hotels or RV'ing it?

I just got rid of a solid 2275 last year shits getting more expensive and quality taking a shit. I built my own engine and maintained it too but I liked to go through it every 2 glamis seasons.

As for parts I have a couple of good ones locally makenzies for off-road parts and Moore parts for vw related.

I think air cooled.net is in Utah guy is sharp one of the best knowledge out there today good prices too.

I'm going to start feeling the pain too. I've picked up another unnecessary VW project (My 4th bug), and have started tinkering around with it. I just scored a decent set of heater channels off of CL, so if you know VW's, you know it's going to be a long road. Like you said, the prices on parts has skyrocketed over the years and the quality has dropped considerably.

I had a Ghia back in 1993/4. Parts crazy cheap in those days. I can't believe how much parts have gone up.

Whatever way you go, remember that you can buy good quality parts once, or poor quality parts 2 or 3 times.

That goes for anything. My grandpa told me when I was a kid, 'buy cheap, buy twice'.

Back in the 70s I was flipping VW's during the winter months when the boat shops were slow. I bought a '68 bug that had that shitbox automatic stick shift trans. I was getting antsy that it wouldn't sell. My grandpa told me "Richie, there's an ass for every seat". Sure enough a few days later a girl came to look at it and thought the trans was the coolest thing she ever driven. As she drove it away we were both happy.
One I flipped that I wish I had today was a '67 Ghia Convert.

If you need a nice new Engine. My Buddy at PowerHaus in Torrance can build you one. He just got his own in house dyno to tune them before they ship out. His shop is Clean we tiled the engine building room few years back. Not cheap but quality is never cheap.

imo only vw stuff worth money is oem German parts engine or car related. Tons of aftermarket but a lot has gone up as quality has gone down. Only vw stuff I had was engine held out as long as I could with it before deciding on a engine swap.

On a New buggy build you can go Honda or ecotec 195-250hp for 3500 easily or spend 5k to build a 170hp vw.

Speaking of VW parts I have a set of K&N large air cleaners. Free for the ride if anyone can use them.

Santa Clara area. it's all a big jungle here anyway. all the towns just collide with each other.

you can't actually tell which city you're in unless the street signs are different colors, etc.

--so Amazon is getting fullfillment centers in milpitas. interesting.
