Looking to replace my Audi Q7, 11 years old and it’s time to move on.
Looking for something smaller, but want AWD, performance and the creature comforts. Had A Tahoe and a Yukon but have no need for the room. Don’t tow anything as the boat is on a Hydro Hoist and never leaves the Delta. It will be a daily driver. My wife has a VW CC with a V6 AWD and it has been a good ride. We also have a Maserati GT as the weekend drive.
Thinking about the VW Golf R.
Thoughts?

If you like VWs, Check out the VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition. Pretty nice car for the money.
Bought my Son one.

Do you really need (2) AWD vehicles? Your options are a lot wider in the 2WD sector.

Might not have the speed that you want, but VW dealers are selling off the diesel VW's including the Passats. All updated and most like new. Most are super low miles for around 14G! I believe 2015 was the last year, and with huge VW warranties and up to 50 MPG.

I sold VW's for awhile. The Golf R is a riot to drive. Don't be surprised if you find yourself getting pulled over more frequently. :)

My son has A GTI, a ZL1 Camaro and a New Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. He told me that if he could only keep 1 vehicle, it would be the GTI.

I used to own a VW R32 when I lived in downtown Chicago. I absolutely loved that car. I traded it for an Audi S5, but I wish I still owned it. The AWD is amazing. I don’t think you can go wrong with that choice.

How about a CPO 335i or 335xi for under $30k?

Twin turbos and a warranty [emoji106]

Sounds like you are on the right track...Golf R is the perfect nice understated hotrod.

They haul ass with the dual clutch. Throw a cobb tune on and cruise around waxing most everything on the road.

CPO warranty, and sell before it runs out.

Those 3 Series are all leased, so off-lease cars get dumped at steep discounts [emoji106]

Totally forgot about what you sent me, I’ll check it out tonight!

If you like the golf R but obviously like Audi I would look into the RS3, pretty much the same car underneath the body with a nicer interior.

We have a 2019 Ford Flex V6 AWD Limited. It is a great all around vehicle, it has plenty creature comforts, lots of power and rides great. We have put 7 adults in a few times an no one is cramped. Mpgs aren't the best, but it does better than my previous Tahoe and rides/handles far better.

Works great for Home Depot runs too. I had 8' lumber in it last week.

The new jettas are super nice but the golf R hauls ass. Real sleeper. A Tune and down pipe and they scream.

Have seen a few Arteons around now. Nice car. I think A8 based?

The last Audi RS3 I was checking out had a 2.5L 5 cylinder putting out 394 HP. From what I can find, the Golf R has a 2.0 4 cylinder with 288 HP, is there another Golf R I'm not seeing ? Also new those RS3's a pushing some pretty steep $$$$. I tried to find a used one in SD and at the time there were ZERO for sale.

As Cole Trickle stated above, I meant to put s3. The RS3 is a bad ass car though:cool:

If you were happy with the Audi then I would suggest a CPO Audi. S4 or A6 w/ 3.0. 5 year unlimited mile warranty. Hard to beat.

New Golf is coming from Germany - be sure to check them out before buying a current one

One of the best rides around right now (value for the $$$) is the Kia Telluride. It's an amazing value - check one out and look at the price. Buy one before they realize their price is too low - they will be raising it soon (if the dealers aren't already). The EX is around $37,000 - find any vehicle offering that much value for that price. I don't think there's one out there.

I am not affiliated with Kia

Drove a 2019 S3 as a loaner after taking my wife's SQ5 in for service --- I was surprisingly impressed, kick in the ass fun car, acceleration was great and it seemed to just sip gas. That's of course what got me checking out the RS version, lol, one of those would be a hoot to scoot :D

I had a 2016 A3 Quattro that I leased. It was a nice car, but the 2016 S4 that I have now is much better. The A3 was built in Hungary, the S4 is built in Germany.
My S4 was a CPO with 10k miles. Will still be under warranty for 2 or 3 more years with service included.

A buddy has an SQ3 and it is a blast.

The S3s are a great platform but I personally think the 5 cylinders sound great in the RS3
