I posted this question in the lounge but not much response. Who makes a good stand for rebuilding engines. I would like to buy one with needle or roller bearing for easy block rotation. Anyone got a recommendation. Thanks

R-S Equipment in Ontario on Grove Ave.
1332 S.Grove Ave.,Ontario Ca. 91761
909/923-2931. 951/360-3833

They sell automotive shop equipment, build Jiffy Lubes stores etc. and they have a really nice looking one in their show room. Give Ron a call and see what he can do for ya on one.

My friend has a harbor freight stand. We had a small 1.6L engine on it and it wasn't bad to turn, then he put a BBC on it and it took 2 of us to rotate it.

I used a JEGS 1,250 lbs engine stand for my 454, it held up the engine pretty good. I'd have to said It did sag i bit, But I just braced it up on the front.
if i was to use one all the time i would upgrade to a bigger one, but for a one or two time use, the 1,250 lbs one is find and 80 bucks is not bad.

I imagine the reason for not finding many engine stands with bearings in the head is safety. If you have ever had a fully dressed engine get away while rotating it you'll know what I mean.

We have one with a bronze bushing in the head with friction lock that got away from me one time while working alone. I was real lucky it didn't flip the whole mess onto the floor.

The hand crank models look like the way to go.
