I think everyone should work in the food service industry at least once in their lives to understand the work involved and what it takes to run a restaurant.

Working on Altas van lines piano moving team was easier than being a cook at a steakhouse.

IF they want to keep anyone reasonably smart that won't instantly look for a better gig it makes sense to pay a decent wage.

I think Rob Clarks daughter is high up at I/O corporate and loves working for this people.

Im lucky to work for a wealthy family. Not the scale of in n out but true wealth to be sure.

I like it far better than working for public corporations.

My first job was at El pollo loco. Looking back on it now I could run circles around all the management there. Stupid easy job

Everyone needs to remember that most fast food are franchise locations, In and Out is 100% corporate owned.

Burger King was my first Gig outside of my Parent's Companies. Worked my Balls off on that Whopper Board. I married a Bartender / Server. The Restaurant Industry isn't a walk in the park.

Working for a Rich family vs working for a corporation? I’m not sure I see the difference. Is a corporation bad in some way?

Working for corporations involve politics, working for families involves putting up with people who dont carry their own weight AND who you have no hope of ever getting rid of.

I work for myself as an independant contractor but 80% of my work is for a "family" company. The shit I see going on there.....

Applying tomorrow. F this back breaking manual labor shit:D;)

Restaurant business is back breaking, believe me. It fucking wears on you.

I worked at a Rallys at 15. Became a shift manager. Worked at a Red Robin as line cook. Shit was too tough for me. went to pizza hut. Worked there for 6 years or so. Became Asst Manager. Went to EMT school and that was that.

Fast forward to im 27. Im Already in the computer biz. My first wifes parents were loaded. They build an Italian Restaurant. They have no clue how to run. They turn to me. Im the only one in 4 degrees of them that had ANY experience. So now im a GM/Partner of a 4 star reataurant. Lol. 3 years of busting my ass. 10am to 5am since we had a nightclub also. Never again!!

My only observation regarding fast food restaurants has revealed one industry standard.

When someone is promoted to "assistant manager", the only thing that means is that they're given a set of keys to the joint and from that point on will be opening up at 5 AM or closing down at 2AM.

:D

Some employers will be making changes in wages for salaried employees.

There's been an increase in the exemption threshold as of 1/1/20. Salaried employees making less than $684 per week must now be paid overtime for working over 40 hours per week.

Big company, small company, lots of employees, or one employee, your payroll may be about to ramp up. That’s because new overtime regulations take effect on January 1, 2020. Under the new rule hourly employees and salaried employees who earn less than $684 per week (equivalent to $35,568 per year for a full-year worker) in most cases must be paid overtime if they work more than 40 hours a week. The previous salary threshold for paying overtime was $455 per week.

This is fact X’s 300. RDP should do some marketing there. They LOVE boaters, cater to us, and the staff has always been great!

So your saying that most of them are going to get a raise to $685 per week? LOL
What a joke. Why would anyone accept a salary position of $35K per year? That’s just plain dumb!!!

Totally agree.
I would add “and/or retail” to the list.

I worked KFC in Chino at 16. When it was 100 outside in was 115 inside. Came home smelling like polyester and grease every night. Longest 6 mos ever

Depends on the family for sure...

By corporation I mean public company.

Never had a tougher meaner less caring boss than wall street.

Here's one example many of us can relate to-
Remember vegas under mob (family) rule? Spend/lose some money...get a comped dinner, room, tickets - something to keep you interested in staying. You dont get shit now but a shrug..the mob was way more friendly than corporation running it are now- and they never killed anyone that "didnt need killin."

IMHO
The amount of money the mob skimmed, was a lot less because there were fewer mouths to feed.

The sheer number of shareholders/shares outstanding means way more money is “skimmed”.

Also, the mob wasn’t building multi-billion dollar properties, so there’s that...

True but the mob did build large hotels.

Steve Wynn remade Vegas with the Mirage and did great - then went public I think around 02 I think (not totally sure) Bellagio was all him.

I never asked or preferred to stay in a multi billion-dollar hotel thats a construct of public companies - the new Ceasars wings being particularly inconvenient having to take multiple elevators and multiple walks to get a room - no thanks.

Since this turned to Vegas, if you don't like the vibe on the strip, go to the local places off the strip. Some family owned and have the old school mentality. They know if you stay in the casino long enough, they will make a profit. However, if you are fed, got a place to stay, plenty to drink and have a good time, you will come back, winner or loser.

I worked at In N Out through high school and college 20 years ago. Store managers made well over 100k, 2nd and 3rds did quite well as well, with bonuses and all. I am sure they are making even more these days. Its a hard life though, half the week you are working until 2 AM and the other half you getting to work in the morning.

I completely agree everyone should work in food service to learn some basic customer service, and some manners. Maybe if everyone did it there wouldn't be as many a-holes treating retail and food service people so poorly.

Even though I am on a very different professional career path in the corporate world, working at In N Out taught me not only how to work hard and work with others, but taught how a company can still be efficient and profitable and treat its employees well.

Last time we were there was 5 years ago, Jerry Lewis was seated at the booth next to us.

It was a real treat, the couple we went with were in awe, they named their son Dean after Dean Martin.
