In my 56 years of life I don’t think I’ve ever seen a star this bright. Looking west right now.

There's apps in your play store that you just point the phone at it and it will tell you what you are looking at.
Yes I think I had that on previous iPhone. Just never reloaded it.

Me being fairly blind without glasses have been watching it. It's one of the only things I can clearly see besides the moon for the most part.

Venus is always the brightest “star” in the sky.
Yup.
Couple weeks ago someone posted about the satellite train being visible so I go outside and the only bright spot was Venus, nothing out of the N-NW whatsoever.
Always cool seeing the Moon and Venus close together too.

3 or 4 weeks ago sitting in my recliner I noticed this same light and asked the wife. I thought for sure it was moving, cataract surgery coming soon:), so she went outside and watched for a few, came back in and said I was nuts, it isn't moving.
Well after this thread comes up, I guess, in a way, I was right!!! Somethings moving just very slow!! That sucker sure is bright!!

On Tuesday night, Venus shared the sky with the waxing crescent moon. They were just a few degrees apart. That night was completely clear here in Plano, and the brilliance of Venus made for a memorable sky view.

This is the brightest Venus will appear in the evening sky until 2028, so go out after sunset and enjoy the spectacle. This article from Forbes I have linked answers all the questions about Venus, read it and enjoy.

Why is Venus looking its best since 2012?

Venus-watchers know that the planet has an eight-year cycle in which it orbits the Sun 13 times, with one year of that cycle spent dominating the post-sunset night skies as a brilliant “Evening Star,” and then the pre-dawn night skies as a “Morning Star.” That’s what’s happening in 2020; it’s not happened since 2012 and it won’t happen again until 2028.

I saw it last night, I thought it was a drone with lights on it but it did not move, very bright and looked close.

Those apps are amazing.
Even though they’ve been out for a while, they still trip people out to this day.

Whenever they mention satellites I never see them either. Or the ISS. Apogees, azimuths and shit like that I don’t know about, I probably slept through in school. 😁

The star apps also track satellites.
It’s crazy how many are up there.
