That looks great!

Well, actually if you look closely, the middle piece with the two champagne glasses, is a slightly different shade.... what it is, is the grain of the material goes the opposite way of the rest... (much like carpet must be put in with the grain going the same way) .

Gatorstep fixed it, made another whole new piece and it looks fabulous now. Customer service was awesome, reviews of the other company customer service... not so much.

I am having it done on my Hallett 270 right now. They came and patterned it today. Doing it over the existing real floor.

You go with the gatorstep or seadek?

Gatorstep.. Griner is the main dealer out here and he is a friend of mine, plus I know Phillip pretty well whom kinda run things for the west coast.

They also have more customizable options than Sea Deck with the laser engraving on the first layer etc..

not what I’m doing.. just showing out they can laser the first layer and do multiple layers underneath.

I went with the more diy / cost effective route with a high density foam equivalent product sold by Walmart. —> Faux Teak

This was my initial test section on my boat and it’s far exceeded my expectations. On my third season with no tears, adhesive failures or stains.

Here’s a setup I did on a friends new Regal last month. We boat together often and felt good enough about using it too.

This is a test sample I made from the same faux teak foam sewn to a heavy outdoor canvas material. The idea is to build a snap in carpet replacement if it holds up and so far so good. I’ve snapped it on and off 278 times which includes soaking it in the lake then letting it dry like the carpet does.

Sweet! Now I'm excited to do this. Are you having it installed or doing it yourself?

How does it stick to the floor texture

the adhesives are really strong. Most the center consoles on the east coast have non skid rolled into the floors and it has no problem sticking to that.

I have this same question so please post your findings. Most of the responses posted pics of adding it to a boat with a liner. I have carpet over resin/plywood. That is a very different situation vs putting it in a boat that has a liner.

Do you know what he does? Can you share or is it a secrete?

I hate calling people to ask about stuff like this when I’m not ready to buy yet - don’t want to waste his time or mine.

That said - I could see me doing it in the future and I have considered having my floors gel coated but would like to save the cost if there is a good option out there???

They apply an Epoxy material (Paint like material) to the resin wood.

I researched Gator Step for a non-interliner boat. It can be done but requires much prep work to a wood type floor. They have to grind it flat and then shoot it with epoxy or gelcoat before putting down the Gator Step. Also requires removing a boat's interior.

Consequently is very expensive to go this route.

IMO, because traditional boat floors do not have drains line an liner'd boat, takes away some of the advantages of going that direction.
