It's a first job, very few make a real career at McDonald's. Flipping burgers is a skilless job, my 9yo flipped his first burger and pancake a couple of years ago, it's a 10 dollar an hour job.

Is that corporate welfare figure net of the amount of per capita savings that is generated via Walmart's purchasing power and savings that they're able to realize on behalf of the average American? I believe that WM calc'd that amount a while back to be about $1,000 in savings per person in the US... Now if that same employee were to go work for that chef and actually try to learn how to make great meals. I could see the chef paying said employee $20 an hour starting out as he would be learning the trade.

This is kind of where the difference lies in cheap labor and skilled labor in my eyes.
