So I'm talking to all my buddies, about a variety of subjects, but in this case we were talking about RDP. A couple of them mentioned the negativity in here lately, and unfortunately I have to agree with them on that front. It does seem like people want to say negative shit when it's not necessary? I almost tapped the subject when I was down in Mexico having a blast in paradise, and a couple members made comments that were just mind blowing to me..

Much like our new WH press secretary though we can circle back to that. They said something that really caught me off guard.. They said "Dave you need more boating content."

:oops::oops::oops::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now here's my response to that... "What the F do you mean we need more boating content?? I got boating content coming out of my ears? I spend a wad that would choke an elephant every single month on boating content, just to make sure we have high quality boating content while I'm kinda down for the count with this ankle bullshit?"

It occurred to me that some of my friends literally just come to the forums and don't ping the front page on their way in.. You guys know we put boating articles up literally daily right? The same guy that headed up PowerBoat Magazine and did all their boat tests etc... Is the guy that is putting up the majority of them. We also have a girl in Florida writing articles non stop on East Coast stuff, and Bryner and Tommy jumping in every chance I can get them for extra content.

Are you guys (yes all of you in the forums) checking on the front page and reading all this stuff?

Quick Recap of Billy's Pirates shows overall - https://www.riverdavesplace.com/forums/articles/river-rocket-meet-up-–-pirate-cove-2013.783/

Excellent Article on restoring Gel Coat - https://www.riverdavesplace.com/forums/articles/diy-gelcoat-restoration-made-easy.772/

There's interviews with Billy B from awhile back
Jets that Tom Papp would've approved of
Nice article on Irvine Lake and Dave Moyes

And even stuff about Nortech..

I'm kinda immune to it because I am seeing a ton of "Boating Content" every single day as I'm the one kinda overseeing all this stuff... Are you guys seeing it?

HAHA - it looks like there is some good stuff there!

My links are set to RD lounge so when I come, I never see the front page.

I will say that sometimes you post in the lounge and mention its on the front page, then I end up on the front page.

But again by just clicking my bookmarks it never takes me to all the new boating content?

BTW - I had not seen any of the links you posted in your post above.

My main link goes directly to the forums base, when you post up something I go there and check it out.

Not everything on the front page is content I am interested in, but on the whole it's quality and I've been sucked in to new content from it.

I need to make more money to play with the big dogs running DCB's and Skaters/Cigs haha!

I come straight to Lounge but I know where the articles are if I want to read them.

It might help if you posted more of the articles/content in the Lounge. Not necessarily copy and paste the whole article but maybe a picture and a link.

I’m really digging the new G&A section and would like to see more off road maybe shop tours. The sxs is huge in Parker / Havasu. Maybe even a few spot lights on member rides buggies and sxs. Even trailers toy box’s and just enclosed trailers fix ups.....

I don’t go to the Frt page usually just new posts!
I’ll look into the Frt page.

As for the negative posts I just think a lot of people are pent up and frustrated due the way life is currently!

When you click that stuff on Tapatalk, which a TON of people use, it takes you to some far off land that makes no sense!

I just come to the web site and hit new....whatever is new is what it is

RDP has become bigger than a boating site. If you don't want all that other content delete the shit out of your headings. You will lose a ton of members though.

Whats it gonna be....traffic or boats only?

I am a Tapatalk user, and I just go to the new discussions, or topics. I like the format better that the web site. To be honest the main reason is that the threads are bigger and spaced apart. The web site seems to cluttered with the way the forums and threads are set up. That’s just me. But, I’ve got to say, that it’s gotten a lot better since Biden stole the election. When I key up the RDP, it’s less election doom and gloom that pops up with the latest threads. There’s more new content nowadays. For a while there, I wanted to brush my teeth with a pistol every time I keyed up RDP.

When you click that stuff on Tapatalk, which a TON of people use, it takes you to some far off land that makes no sense!

That's because Tapatalk is a forum software and not a content management software.. It can't recognize the links to the front page so it tries to resolve it by putting up random forum links.

Every time I post a link I say "You Must Use a Browser!! It will not work with Tapatalk".

At this point I'm not sure what the benefit of running TT would be over running a browser.. The site is smart phone friendly and infinitely more capable.

I was never talking about limiting subjects or getting rid of off topic things..

One of the key reason RDP is a successful forum when all the other forums died is there is xyz forum and if you talk about something other than xyz than it gets deleted.. RDP is a boating forum... but we are all boaters, and I don't much give a shit what we talk about because we are all boaters.. LOL

I was talking about possibly injecting more boating content into the forums themselves. Not taking anything away.

I agree with the negativity that’s here
But it’s everywhere. You can’t stop it here when you fill your life with it.
people thrive on bad news, shitting on others and never being wrong.
it’s the new normal

With the influx of new articles on the homepage I find myself making my way there every time I log in. I think its just getting people aware that the content is there in light of everyone bookmarking the forum. Perhaps a temporary sticky for say a week or two for each new article in the Lounge would drive more traffic?

Or at least have the articles come up on the new content/what's new page when they are posted.. you know the little lightning bolt at the top of the forum page

I log in and it hits the main page. I look at gearhead stuff and then to the lounge, off road, and gun section in that order. I slide into the dungeon every now and then, but it is sorta the same old thing, an exercise in futility and the trolling is boring as hell....and then I go to classified on the way out. I really like the changes in the firearms section.
But, like you said, things are sorta negative here, RD.
But, if you look at the world we live in, it is pretty damn negative too. People feel comfortable coming in and engaging in conversation about the world.
That, in my mind, is a reflection on you...that you have created this place where people are comfortable talking about things. The common denominator that brought us all here is our love of all things boat. I think there is plenty fo boating content. Maybe put a teaser up on top of all of the sections that has a pic of a boat story or topic with a click link, if you decide you need to direct more traffic to the boating areas.
I don't get online as much as I used to but this is the home page, and will remain so.

When I’m not at work I’m exclusively on my phone without TT. Once the new format here was implemented I couldn’t ditch TT fast enough.
At work I use a browser which works fine but with security stuff I can’t follow some links.
I do log out at work and it goes to the page with the articles.

One thing that sounds negative on here is often times just being honest.
Used to be say nothing if you have nothing good. Social media has changed this.
If i was 100% honest here it would sound real negative.
That new magic, if i was totally honest.....you get the idea

I get the negativity comment from newbies, a good portion of it is ribbing from members who have interacted with hostility for years, more like a married couple lol.

I have been part of some negativity here on the forums, I try to contain it to the liberals in the P&G.

Recently I am trying to be less negative, and just because I CAN say something, if it's not positive or constructive, I am withholding comment.

Less keyboard warrior, more member of a community.

I come for the community, boaters, mechanically minded, peripherals like machining and G&A, similar stuff that interests me. I have a v drive (in progress), but haven't hit the V drive page in a while. Why? I know where I am and I know that the questions will go there when I have them.

I also come to be amazed...that grads is still around, and brown isn't. That 70% (or close to) of members didn't want the covid shot. Amazing!

But mostly I feel like a member of a loose community...better than many churches I've been to. The lounge is where the community is, the other stuff is just a bonus.

Probably because you have to many drunks on here.
excluding me of course since i'm a happy drunk :)

I won’t say you’re not a happy drunk. But who would now when we can’t understand 90% of what you’re spewing. Lol. If I need a special decoder ring or something let me know. I want one. [emoji106][emoji16]

I found RDP by accident, looking for info. That landed me in the Lounge. A little bit later, I signed up. Honestly, I am not a tech type person. I didn't know stuff like this site existed. I've met a handful of people because of this here, and they've been good folks. I venture to the front page, usually to see if there are any vintage racing or builder articles. To me, those are like reading old Hot Rod mags. Seeing the new offerings by the builders is cool too. Even though most are beyond my means, the "journalist" people here take pics and write about things you wouldn't know seeing the boat beached somewhere. Also, shop tours are always interesting. Seeing the people, tools and equipment used to make some of these boats and products is a behind the scenes some don't care about. Some only care about the product, not what it took to get it to market.

Is there negativity, sure. The world's on fire, but it's still a bit cold to launch the boats. When it warms up, we all get to go back into the sun, and play in the water. Doing that a weekend or two a month gives everyone a needed break from the mental grind.

I think it’s more the general talk in the forums than the articles. You gotta be careful bringing up boating in the forums cause you’ll probably interrupt someone’s rant about how screwed up California is.
