Awesome!! Oside is a great dept, they get lots of calls! Nolan has been with the North County Fire Explorers for 4 years, he's in the 60th Academy, he's already got his EMT, so next year will be knocking those 2K hours out, and working toward medic! I work for Rancho Santa Fe!
Yes academy 59 ... he was just hired at Oceanside Fire as an EMT. He's also currently in a paramedic prep class so I think he'll be going through that soon, he has his 2k hours working as an EMT done. Which department are you with?
Just want to pass on a little info. I retired form the SBCoFD and have been in contact with most of the So Cal departments over the past 10 years as the Operations Specialist for Crafton Hills College Fire Academy. What ALL of the departments are telling me is that they are washing out OVER 50% of the applicants during background checks! So please, please, please talk with your children interested in a job in Public Service the importance of making good choices in life right now! If you want me to talk to them PM me and I’ll give you my number. They are on the right track, keep them going in that direction and good luck.

I'm going to add to this, most people that get dropped in backgrounds for both Fire and Law Enforcement get dropped because they try to hide something, the background investigater will find out guaranteed, just tell them everything, most of the things that they are trying to hide won't disqualify them anyway.

Way ahead of you, I have beaten it into this kid about who he hangs out with, what he does/doesn't do. It has not been an easy road, but he has worked super hard, and continues to make good choices. I work in the fire service so I fully understand the consequences.

That looks like a great trip for a parent and child. That stretch of highway has been under construction for some time now. We saw it a few years ago when driving to bring our son back to the West Coast from CU Boulder. Hope your daughter enjoys her last year. I know our son was burnt out by that point and just wanted out. It sure is nice to have him out of school as an adult and on his own.

That stretch of highway is Glenwood Canyon, usually some type of work going on there. But this year it has been closed due to mudslides or threats of mudslides a few days every week with all the monsoon activity. They just opened it after being closed for almost a week. He's lucky he came though on a dry stretch of days or it would have been a huge detour.

Yep, it’s a mess. We rolled the dice as it was still closed when we left LA, still closed when we got to Utah, but open the next morning! Beautiful drive.
We met up with friends in Utah that had just moved their son into CU and were driving back, they had to take the detour, added over 2 hours, next morning it was open.. 9 hours in a Jeep is plenty…..

God you made it out there @havasuhusker

Road wasn’t too bad right? What did you think...

Thanks! I loved it. It's a great place for weekday or weeknight trips. Wouldn't want to be there on the weekend. The road wasn't too bad, but then there was not a lot of traffic either. I was able to take up as much room as I needed.

Great pictures and that had to be a bittersweet trip. My daughter is a junior in High School and I know the day is coming soon where she will be heading off to school. We just took a road trip through Colorado and the I 70 was washed out in Glenwood Springs. Looks like a couple of your pictures are in that area. Congrats to you and your daughter.

Huge detour but a cool one. Worth the extra time at least once.

Vaccine passports required

Thought so. Welp that is out of the question. Maybe Boston or DC then. Was thinking it would be nice to have a selfie outside the barbed wire in DC. :cussing:

Crappy pictures from my phone at Castaic tonight. Heading back to the speed cove about 1/4 mile from the no ski zone. White Bouys from right to left about half way out to the middle of the lake. Then some others marking spots. To the left of the last bouys in my shitty pictures was only 4-5 ft deep in spots.

I've created a monster, got to my parents and the first thing my kid did was run over to his quad. I take him for a little ride around the yard and we stopped for a water break. After the break I came around the corner to find this, my kid is not even 2 yet and he is hooked

We ended the ride with otter pops on the tailgate of the truck with his cousins
