The delta icon “Guisti’s“ burned down yesterday. Opened in 1912 it has been run by the family for 4 generations.

Our group was just there a couple weekends ago, so sad looks like a total loss.

Just a few miles from my house.
Was one of the few places here in the delta to get a decent meal.
Its a real shame, such a loss to the family and the community as a whole.

Ironically, I have friends and family coming down today and was sending them there for a late lunch.

Holey Shit, That place was our groups regular in the 80's and 90's. Lots of lunches (cocktails) with the Deek family.
Occasionally a visit from Rush Limbaugh also. So sorry to loose another memory landmark.

Unfortunately, it was a total loss. I've been going there for close to 50 years. Normally, you'd know a few people when you walked in the door and everytime you left, you'd know a few more. I feel like I lost a member of my family.

Damn shame the Delta continues slow decline.
Grew up on Bethel Island in the 60s seen the delta go from the peak to slow decline.
What a neat deal as a kid, water skied everyday after school from April to November.
I was around 12 and a guy was pulling water skiers with a brand new wood deck blown hydro. Was the coolest thing I’d ever seen….15 years later had my own.

Given the restrictions, I will be surprised if they are allowed to build back.
Effectively, there is no new construction allowed in the delta. Theoretically possible but incredibly rare.

You are correct even if they passed all the permits the building cost would be prohibitive.
All considered flood zone, so just the elevation structure for the building probably puts it over the top.

Heard about this yesterday via a delta FB group I belong to. So sad.
It’s been a few years now but we went there with the DLB boating group a few times. 🥲

Looks like a cool place. I always wondered how the fire marshall signed of on places that have a shit ton of old stuff hanging from the ceiling and walls. Place in Sturgis, the dungeon, every inch of the place is covered, always freaks me out.

So sad That was the best fried chicken dinner around. It was always a dinner destination when we visited the area.
