Long story short the wife and I somewhat saw where things in the US have been headed and decided F a lockdown let's do a house on wheel's. We sold a bunch of stuff including 2 houses and have been full timing in our RV. We hit Florence last year June and really haven't had a reason to leave besides Kate Brown's bullshit. We have been living on the water and pretty much shorts weather 11 months out of the year.
We have the riding dune's, epic fishing, exploding whale's, awesome beaches, surfing etc.
Anywho the wife and I were talking about what to do this summer when the Port called and offered us the Port host position out of the blue. So here we are, went from Ca. hot boat's to big blue. We watch/run the dock's, RV park, ramp, etc. in the evening and I will say the deal is pretty sweet. I will try to keep this alive if there's interest, summer should be pretty awesome content between the fishing, dune's, Rhody fest and so on.

That little trawler looks like an awesome boat!

Any more info on it?
I've only seen someone on her once last summer. They gave it a bath stayed the night and took off. I will find out more and let you know. Her bow is pretty cool.

The Otter is a cool piece of history. Don't quote me till I double check but she was built in the 20's I believe. The owner is in his 90's and will only work and fish her himself. He spent all last summer at the dock fixing dryrot, oiling wood and lots below deck. The Otter was also given top remarks for sea worthy ness by the coast guard at 100+ years old. Check out his work bench and vice he was using today they are probably double my age :). I did get to watch him turn her around a couple months ago with lots of boats around inside the slips pictured. He waited till slack tide fired her up and maneuvered a complete 180 without leaving inside dock's to completely turn around. To top that off there were probably 90 people fishing on the docks and another 100 watching and eating at Novelli's (also interesting story to tell) on the water. You would have swore he had bow thrusters his moves where so smooth and effortless and somehow he does it all by himself.

I like the trawler because of its OAL. It looks to be manageable by a limited crew. The Otter you posted up is also a beautiful vessel, but man that sucker is going to take a lot of work and a truckload of money to bring back to life. Its definitely a labor of love! Thank you for the responses, I appreciate it!!

Hit me up love me some fish and chips and these restaurants/bar's definitely need the business.
That's the bar at the Waterfront Depot. Hopefully they made it through covid shut down. I'll for sure let you know if the wife and I are in town by ourselves. Lake fishing around Florence is fantastic. I've pulled may 16-20 inch trout out of Muncel Lake. We had a condo right there at the boat ramp over looking the river. Walk down to Mo's for claim chowder and onion rings in the evenings. Hell, I still have club cards for family chowder bowls.

That would be sad if Mo's took a turn for the worst.

I must have missed the good Mo's if there every was one. Tried it twice a long time ago and bought the chowder at the supermarket to take home all no bueno. People line up for Mo's and miss out on much better food. Funny enough nobody seems to bring up how good it is or was like other restaurants.

We spent many weekends just down the road at Honeymon State Park. Good times. 👍

"the blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds"

We need quality reporting like this again! That video is priceless. Love the thread, but the video takes it.

As Port Host do you have to deal with derelict boats?

Too bad, my First Wife was from Corvallis and had a cabin in what was called Lobster Valley near the Alsea River, Mo's was a must drive for lunch back then. For under $5 you got a huge bowl of clam chowder with a to die for piece of garlic cheese bread.
