Can't stress safety enough- Another family destroyed because of a life vest.
Sad story that possibly could have been prevented....

---------------
ADA COUNTY, Idaho — Marine deputies with the Ada County Sheriff's Office are working to recover a 16-year-old who fell off a personal watercraft Monday night in Lucky Peak Reservoir.
A spokesman for the sheriff's office said Tuesday afternoon that the missing person, whose name hasn't been released, did not resurface after falling off the watercraft, described as a Jet Ski or similar model, at about 9 p.m. Monday.

The missing person was riding with another person on the watercraft, when they hit a wave and the boy fell in. The Ada County Sheriff's Office said the two people were not wearing life jackets.
The driver of the watercraft jumped into the water but could not find the boy, an Ada County Sheriff's Office news release said. Several people from another boat also tried to help find the boy, but were not able to.

Our Kawais jump to 71 MPH in a eye blink. Falling and hitting the water at that speed is devastation.

I don't understand why some folks do not see the danger in riding without a vest especially on a rocket. We typically see 1 or 2 sets of kids riding without vests during the heavier weekends. Wife always hears me talking too myself with the comment "IDIOTS" Don't they understand how dangerous that really is...

RECOVERY UPDATE:
Local authorities have STOPPED the search for the 16-year-old who drowned last weekend (PWC Accident- thrown off, never surfaced)
Imagine being the family that finds the body once it finally surfaces....and speaking of families- the parents of this young man etc. must be heart broken and knowing he's down in the deep.

That and push a button and it only runs 40 mph on ours, turns off the supercharger and limits RPM. No way I would let anyone without a lot of experience ride it with the supercharger on.

It’s sad to keep reading about operators that don’t take the simple step of wearing a life vest. Many state and Federal lake facilities have free loaner vests too. Give yourself a chance to survive and wear a life vest.

UPDATE- Body of missing 16 year old found-

So I originally started this post as a FYI and PSA stressing the need for boating/PWC safety.
The body of the 16 year old who fell off a jet ski TWO WEEKS AGO was found yesterday "Floating by a dock"
While this can help with closure for the parents etc- it sure weights heavy on my heart.

And to add a side note for water safety- TWO MORE PEOPLE HAVE DROWNED since this young man drowned- that's 3 drownings in two weeks at Lucky Peak (Boise, ID)

1) fell off jet ski- no life vest
2) fell off paddleboard- no life vest
3) Jumped off a moored boat with friends-no life vest

I took a buddy of mine and his family to the river with me this past weekend. Getting ready to jump in to cool off. "Do we really need these life jackets on?" As I'm putting mine on to jump in. I tell him, "that's my rule. Boat could blow from us. Our body could not like the cold water. Lots could happen even when not expecting it." We both jumped in with vests on.

I will admit, prior to some of the stories on this site. I may not have put it on for that little dip. I'm a decent swimmer and in fair shape. But, I've read some wise comments on here over the years.

So while these things are tragic. I for one, have learned from all of you talking about them.

I pretty much never jump into deep water without a dock line in my hand.

I'm too old to fight with the current and wind anymore.

I remember, several years ago floating in front of the casinos (Laughlin) in my previous boat (Carrera) hotter than hell, we were just floating with the current, motor off, thought I would "just jump in" to cool off- HOLY SHIT- I hit that water which felt like it was 32 degrees (I am sure it was much warmer but it was COLD against my body baking in 110 degree heat) and I'll be dammed if it was all I could do to hang on the rail, pull around to the back to get on the swim step- If someone was watching, I bet all looked normal, but for me, on the inside, I could hardly move, muscles synched up, felt light headed and it really scared me. (You guys ever get the "Skier Shakes" from water skiing from being completely spent after a good run?) Got in the boat, sat down and just said a small "thank you" to the man upstairs. The wife had no idea, the whole thing took less than 2-3 minutes, and I was MUCH younger and in better shape. So I hear you guys about grabbing a vest, floaty, maybe a tow line when jumping in.
