installing stern drive in an outboard boat

I changed a few things lately, Those headrest flairs are gone along with the headers. I cut the swap meet headers up and made them into zoomies. My v drive is a little loud so,,,,,I built some baffles for the zoomies. (they're removable ha ha ha ha ) Chrome tips are from Ebay. Still under...

installing stern drive in an outboard boat

Stringers and keel were redesigned and then floors went in. After building up the transom,,,in went the engine. Ya Ya Ya, I know,, there's only one exhaust header,,,,but after all,,this is for the set-up to see how everything is gonna work out. So far so good.

    power or manual steering

Ok, so I bit the bullet and cut out the transon for the alpha one inch higher. I'll be mocking up the engine next to built the engine mount pads. My question is,,,,should I run power steering or manual? I hope to be running in the 70's. The boat is a 16 foot Carlson CVX that was an outboard...

    Is this all she's got?

Yea,,,,,she does hop a bit at the end,,,,but nothing too bad that can't be controlled. Another couple of runs and then put it away 'till spring while I work on my next "toy".

    Is this all she's got?

I took my nimbral 12/14 prop to the shop and was told that it had a bent ear. I had it pitched to 15, cupped, sharpened polished and balanced all for $75. With this prop I get 61 MPH at 4700 RPM's. The engine is a 383 Chysler 400 HP a 12 degree shaft and 15 gears.

installing stern drive in an outboard boat

I've started a new project (I get bored easy). I want to put in an alpha drive in a 16 foot Carlson cvx. I have the boat all carved up and redesigned and while it's at this point, I'd like to know how high to mount the drive. I know that the cav plate should be at the bottom edge of the...

    Is this all she's got?

Well I finally had a calm day and a chance to get the flatty to fly. I got 65.1 MPH at 4500 RPM's. I'm running a 12 degree shaft with 15 gears spinning a 12/16 3 blade. When I was running a 12/14 3 blader, I got 50 at 5000. Is it possible to get more out of her? Change prop, cut prop...

    18ft rayson craft

Had it in the lake yesterday. After jetting up to 75's in the primary, and swapping the prop to a 12/16 from a 12/14, I got 65.1 MPH. I just have to check that the carb is wide open when the pedal is on the floor. Not too much hopping around 55 and up, but that's if the lake is flat. More...

    carb goes dry

Here's an update to the dry carb. I rebuilt the holley and after a number of runs, it doesn't dry out, so I guess the demon was very thirsty. This boat has been completely gone through and renewed. The tanks are new (I built those too) fuel filter new, engine new, stringers and paint and...

    carb goes dry

Well,,,, because the carb is not mine,,,,I didn't open it up to check the float, so instead I rebuilt the 750 holley that came with the boat when I bought it. Be fore the carb ran lean and wouldn't idle without the choke on a little. Now that I rebuilt it, it idles and revs and gets back on...

    carb goes dry

You're right! I could burn a piston. The engine that came with the boat had a hole burned through one of the pistons. Now for the info,,,,,,,new engine block, heads, intake, carb, dist (from points to ecu) The needle has been out a nuber of times and the float level set but it still runs...

    carb goes dry

Well I have got the boat in the water after a total rebuild of engine and boat. Now for the sea trails. The original carb (Holley 750 mech sec,) wouldn't let the engine idle, it would run lean. I borrowed a 750 Demon from my son and now the boat idles and ran nice for the first 3 or 4 miles...

rayson craft almost ready to get wet!!!

I did, but they look too tall. The bends in the pipes are 90 degrees. If they were at 45 degrees they would look right. Oh well,,,, One can't be fussy on a budget.

rayson craft almost ready to get wet!!!

Finally got the engine block and heads back from the machine shop and I've been working on getting this monster ready for July 4. The plumbing, and wiring is next, then the seats. All this so far adds up to $4200.
