Sure, but the customer will pay me directly for any work we do on them outside of handling it through Speed. Any warranty issues need to be dealt directly with Speed.
Re: Transmissions
The agreement between Speed and Weddle is that any transmission/front diff work will be shipped to Weddle (me), whether that is to fix broken units, or service/freshen up units that might be a little tired or between races.
Since Robby has mentioned our involvement more than...
Gen 2 trans got delivered just after the first 10 production cars were delivered. Remember Speed replaced the Gen 1 transmissions in all of those cars after the failures at KOH.
I don't know what broke yet. Only chatted with customers over the phone about it.
Trans failures...
I have 2 confirmed trans failures via direct phone calls with customers. Nick from Chupacabra broke one after about 1500 miles, and another customer up north that said he ran his car somewhat hard. I have not seen either of them yet, I don't know if they are Gen 1 or Gen 2...
There could be a few issues causing this.
The 4wd engagement is in the front diff. An electrical charge to the diff charges a magnet built into the side cover which then creates "friction" with a drive plate against the magnet, forcing a roller and cage assembly to drive the front axles (very...
I'll be there next month as well. In-laws inherited a condo on the strip between the waterway and beach. Went last year but didn't get out much as wife was pregnant.
What are the top 3 restaurants and top 3 bars to hit?
We did Baucampers on the waterway last year, it was ok for a big...
Wont tell you much other than what "debris" they find in the oil. Typically heavy metals from bearings and gears that are getting worn off. The more debris there is, the more wear there will be on bearings/gears.
Unfortunately there is no warning for when these things let go. There is no...
Someone should have taken home a $250 Weddle gift certificate at this event. Hopefully they put it to good use.
We finally have some Weddle trans gears (0817-052) finished up and in transit, I should have them next week, but probably won't put my hands on them until I get back from the Mint 400.
We recently made some HD drive plates for those front diffs to replace the cheesy thin stamped steel plates that twist and break. That Spool is good for crawling, but turns like a dump truck in the desert/sand.
Trans is still subject to the common gear and bearing failures on the earlier...
I started thinking about this after I posted that, mostly because I've started posting some videos on instagram talking about things here at the shop. Doh!
You are correct, there is no way to get away from being recorded in today's day and age, but I think it would be harder for the common...
I have Verizon. As of Tuesday, I have been slammed with 12-15 spam calls a day starting at 9am until about 5:30, damn near every 15-20 mins. There are about 4-5 different numbers, mostly saying they are from LA, Fontana, Orange County, and Bakersfield.
I normally don't answer numbers that I...
They are not much mechanically different than a sequential/dog-engagement gearbox. The main difference is the computer controlled shifting and electronically actuated clutch. Can-am had a cut-away trans at their dealer event that someone took a picture of that I examined for a while.
With all...
My professional opinion, I want everyone of these things to have a full manual gearbox, DCT included. It's generally good for my business.
But I do have to say the rubber band transmissions are still filling up the shop faster than we can turn them around.
A little bit of "dog-lash" when the drivetrain oscillates is normal, doesn't bother me.
Torque limiters shouldn't really make any noise since they are bathed in gear oil.
The belt is pissed after all of that throttle input and no wheel spin. Clutch sheaves are probably pretty well glazed...
Can't say much about the Yamaha, we've never gotten into them, they actually hold up pretty well for most users. Some of the rock crawling and short course racers have issues, but we rarely get contacted about them (which I am fine with, I have enough on my plate with the other units)
Broken CV...
Yup. I've done the high gear swap in a few Can-Am transmissions with customers stating they were 100+ MPH on 35's. A few well known Pro-R racers have told me 110 MPH recently.
As in more, or less? I thought I remember him saying he didn't want these things doing more than high 80's for the general public (which is a good idea in my opinion)
