Just keep the DEF topped off and drive it. It averages about ~1 gallon per 1k miles. My wife does plenty of short commutes taking and typical socal traffic and knock on wood it's been a great vehicle. Like @Doc said if I were to give up my 2500HD I'd buy a half ton with the 3.0 as well.
