Mercedes invented it back in the 50’s. The patent has long expired. It’s not so much about high rpm, but more about not having to run heavy valve springs with their associated parasitic losses. They can also run very aggressive cams ( ramps).
It’s pretty hard to buy a bad bike these days. They have all gotten so good, that reliability is almost never an issue. Biggest question will be, how will he be using the bike. Is it mostly on road with some mild trail riding. If so, the bigger bike rule. If he is going to be doing more 50/50...

I watched the highlights last night. They did a 900km stage !!!!!!! Over 11 hrs on the bikes, and will go again today. Unbelievably, first and second in the bikes are only separated by 1 second with over 2500km’s raced! THAT’S RACING. !!!!!
Anyone else watching the race? I’ve always been a huge fan and try to catch all I can. This year seems to be an even harder race than normal. Lots of breakdowns and crashes. On the bikes, Brabec is really starting to come on strong in the last few stages ! I’m rooting for the home town...

My guess is a 4x4 dually, with all terrains. Maximize the traction ! But as ya know, some of those ramps are slippery as hell! No surprising some trucks slide in down there.
