Cool project. Nice to see them old trucks back on the road. I posted this on a different site today. Best friend took a old flat nose that sat in his Father’s field for years and restored it. His Father had past away and he got it done and put it in the 4th of July parade. His Mother had no clue he had finished it.

Well shit…the old radiator that sat open for 35+ years in the desert decided to puke last weekend. Surprised it lasted this long! Ordered up a new aluminum radiator from Champion Radiators and got it installed on Wednesday. Running nice and cool now

Truck looks great now and you’ve come a long way. Now I would keep my eyes open for a D60 snow fighter axle and I would probably do something like fab up some turbo flanges on the front exit exhaust, source a couple of Mitsubishi or Subaru turbos out of the wrecking yard give the heads a good torque down build a cheapie little blow through carburetor and put about 3 pounds of boost to it. It would wake it up a little and add a priceless cool factor.

HAHA...I like the way you think! Problem is I'd do all that work and the damn thing will still top out at 50mph! I was thinking of getting a gearset made for the diff to lower the ratio from 5:13 down to 3:73. Anyone recommend someone that makes gears? Or maybe even has a gear vendor unit laying around!

Probably be easier to find a rear end out of a modern one ton and adapt it
I agree. Only problem would be the mismatched wheels and figuring out matching tire sizes. It's still an ongoing project but my buddy wants it up where he lives to help sell his bbq and seasonings

Look for an old school Borg Warner under/over drive. Goes on the back of the trans, pops had one on a 66 F250 with a 3 on the tree and it was sweet.

Good idea bud! Only problem I can think of is the stock parking brake drum hangs on the back of the trans

Seems a later floater with maybe 411 would be the thing. Slave cyl size. Then cut a hub centric adapter. I agree on keeping wheels.
Hmmm…definitely want to try to keep the wheels

Then that is awsome ! You did a great job so it was sad to see it go with out the back story . Kind of ! Haha .
I hear you. She was a fun build. It was originally his grandfathers ranch truck on his property in 29 palms. Cracked a head in 1984 and she was parked in the dirt until I drug her home. After I got her up and running my buddy hit me up to buy it back but also make it his company’s flagship vehicle. We struck a deal and now she’s on her way home to central California

So @redone76 , any pics or stories on this sweet machine since you relinquished it?
It's living a good life in Arroyo Grande which is on the central coast of California. My buddy says he's gotten small town famous with it cause he uses it for deliveries with his seasoning company. I'll hit him up for some pics
