Pardon my ignorance as I don't know much about these new scarabs with the Rotax motors, but 110k plus for this I'm not seeing it. New custom builds from west coast builders aren't much more and have better resale.

Anybody know anything about these boats, is there something special about them I am missing?

Man, it's sad to see what Scarab has become....
TRUE STORY!!!
Using the Scarab name for those little POS buckets is an affront to the boating world.

THIS is Scarab.

KAAMA-wow Costa Mesa Ca old skool, I remember seeing those boats running as a kid in Newport. My favorite was "Black Gold" If I remember correctly. Good times and
good stuff. These Rotax dinghy pushing time wasters are an embarrassment to the Wellcraft,Scarab names. There is No replacement for displacement.

I think Larry Smith and Ted nakiyama (I don't know how to spell his name) still have the shop in Costa Mesa right?

I thought Larry Smith was up in Santa Barbara still. Can't remember. Last I heard they'd still build you a LS Scarab.

Maxed out had a used one for sale this year for like 55 I think and the boat is around 75-85 new so that’s a Covid rip price

I was fortunate enough to meet Betty Cook when I was a kid! Her niece was my neighbor! peaked my interest in offshore racing early on!

An old buddy use to take those Kamma customer boats out and test those new drives on the open water, perks of the job...

RIP Betty Cook (Kaama Racing) RIP

Sounds like Scarab switched to the Biden - Harris team! How sad is that?

I think Larry does have ties or lives up in Santa Barbara. Years ago when the scarab name was released from wellcrafts contract Larry was building a little 17 boat that was a splash off the little 17 IO that was made but eliminator was actually laying up the hulls. These last gen 17' boats were outboard powered and were foam filled. They were marketed under the "Kona Sportboats" name.

Back at that time I had talked to Larry about building one of those 17' and just going stupid with the power and running a big jack plate. Larry had me contact Ted and Ted had me come by costa mesa. Long story short, there was a shop in Costa Mesa, but that was around 10 years ago and I have no idea if that shop even still exists

Having owned a real SCARAB in the 90’s, and knowing what a wave crusher it was out in the Pacific, I have to cringe every time I see one of these PWC’s with the SCARAB name. Ughhhhh. A step below a Yamaha boat.

Dan at ARCHER MARINE has all the build sheets of 99% of all Larry Smith builds. He popped a LS 26 (Speedster) a few years ago and there was a write-up on it and his 32 Speedster

I just commented in the other thread but I think with all these slow ass wake boats and boring jet boats there will be a renaissance for fast and loud "affordable" West coast custom boats in the next 5-10 years, maybe more though. Think modern Hellcats and muscle car wars combined with vintage Porsche restoration..

People will get bored and want one last hurrah before they're gone. And they'll pay big money for it. Maybe it's already starting now?

Reading this made me reflect, I thought the guys name was Ted, but it may have been Dan. Archer marine rings a bell as well, is that the shop in Costa Mesa I went too?
