So I scored another lathe. This one is a mid 60s Atlas 12 inch lathe under the Sears Craftsman logo. It wasn’t running when I got it because it had about a dozen things wrong with it. A loose setscrew on the motor pulley, a shot power cord, some broken off bolts, some missing handles, and a general tightening up/tune up. Back gear had never been used. The tailstock had never been used. And the machine had not been oiled or greased since it was new. I put about 12 hours into it and she runs great. I took a 2 inch test cut on a piece of aluminum and got .0002 taper from one end to the other. I call that good enough. The quick change tool set up off of my 10 inch lathe bolted right on and I did not have to adjust the height at all. So this lathe is quite a bit beefier than the 10 inch, and obviously it has a lead screw gearbox so it can cut threads. It also has twice the horsepower than the 10 inch and It also came with a vinyl cover.

Brave. 😂

I can't remember the last time one of these actually was successful for me.

I don't even bother anymore, it's straight to the LH drill bits and heat. 😂

I wish back in high school we had cell phones with camera. I’d have a few pics of The frozen bolt with a broken easy-out in them. LOL I find that with age I have obtain a little patience in these situations and better solution that brute force.
