Good job. I'm on track with your driving habits. Bought my 08 used in 2011 with 115k miles, it was a Texas runner truck. Based on miles and internal clock avg speed was 45mph. I just rolled past 180k miles.

I have a 2003 4x4 LB. extcab with 123,000 miles. It’s retired like me! To just pulling the 5th wheel or launching the boat.

My 02 Silverado 2500 HD only has 125,000. Long bed extended cab.
Granted no power windows etc but I’d bet I could get 7-8 thousand for it these days.

I gave my 04 GMC CrewCab Duramax
To my grandson with 585,000 miles on it.
It’s at 611,000 rt now.
No brakes until 520,000 mi.
My 07 LBZ has 226,000 currently.
I would like a new truck but I’m scared of all the def and regulations with diesels.

I like your style! By a truck to drive it! I don’t know how these guys have 10+ year old trucks with less then a 100k. I had a 04 LB7 and sold it at the end of 08 with 188k. Replaced it with a 09 LMM and drove that until December of last year. When I sold it it had 220k (should have kept it) I now have a 2021 L5P and truth be told the ten speed is awesome. You truly forget you’re towing anything. It’s quite and comfortable, probably this is the first truck I have had that hasn’t had a wazoo lift or wheels and I think it’s going to stay that way.

Rookie numbers - 2011 Silverado 2500 HD with 280,000. I got 200,000 out of the front brakes because the rotors had cracks and 220,000 on the rears because I blew an axle seal and saturated the brake pads with grease on one side. In both cases I had more than half of my pads remaining. I hear they don’t make the pads that well anymore.

I just bought a 2007 LMM w/ 230K on it…a few leaks from the cooler lines, idler and pitman were wiped out, rear seat insulators were broken and the drivers door latch was worn out so it had some rattles…but it drives like new with all that shit fixed. I imagine it’ll need injectors at some point, so still trying to decide whether to keep this or my 1500HD…I don’t really have anything heavy to tow, but torque is kinda nice. The 1500HD doesn’t have any of that.

No one steals cats from a diesel. Haha!! Do what I did and bust out the ceramic media in there anyway. Passes the visual/no questions.

I imagine I’d need some sort of a tune to keep from setting a code? Will it still pass the visual smoke part of the test with a gutted DPF?

It’s likely just the sensor. You have to get it recalibrated after you install a new one. It’ll still run to get to a shop.

swapping the turbo is a serious pain in the ass. I had Midwest turbo connection rebuild mine with a balanced billet wheel. They said mine was on its way out at 200k miles.

mine did. No codes. I ran a magnaflow 4inch cat back system too. Sounded great. It will smell like a real diesel though

Right now I’m going with a stock rebuilt turbo…. I need to do some more reading on it. Most turbo swaps are to get more power, I just want stock and reliable! I don’t tow that heavy and mostly just drive it to havasu and back to San Diego At 85 mph!

the check engine light has been mostly on for 3 years….

Ah heck I fall into the low end. 05 f350 with 95k 2nd owner. First 05 f250 died an unfortunate death with 190k.
Have an 04 yukon xl 5.3 with 220k did have to replace a head after a bad tuneup blew a spark plug out one hole.

@DLC I hear ya. Been reading up on it too as I’d rather get rid of the variable vane tech in favor of a newer more traditional turbo.

Im not necessarily looking for more power but am looking to take advantage of more advanced turbine wheels/exhaust housings. In my eyes Garrett’s VVT is the weak link reliability wise but I’m not sure yet what’s needed to get rid of its supporting systems.

Absolutely love my rig. 06' LBZ, 10" CST on 38's, just turned 129k. I don't drive it much at all except for lake trips. No brakes yet, but I did change out the transmission cooler lines (that always leak) for some nice braided lines from Fleece. Also just replaced the water pump (weep hole was dripping a little) with a new OEM.

If you don't already have one, might I suggest adding a lift pump. Our lift pumps are expensive, why make it work harder than it should. I run a FASS.

Nice ride @Duramax. Any other transmission/cooler upgrades? I’m looking to upgrade the cooling system next.

I also run a lift pump (AirDog) along with an Amsoil dual remote bypass system. Albeit redundant, a Nicktane billet filter head assembly is a nice upgrade since the lift pump handles priming. Nice to have another 2-micron filter downstream and not have to worry about rebuilding the factory filter head 👌

When I got the Fleece braided lines they are longer than stock, because of that, you can flip your tranny cooler up and into the air stream instead of behind your bumper.
It made almost a 15 degree difference in my trans temp, and is a great mod. You should do it for sure. Also, I would like to upgrade my fuel cooler somehow. I don't like how hot the fuel gets.

I sold my LMM and bought my dad's 04 LLY. He's the original owner and has 249k grandpa miles on it, lots of changes in the works to handle the toyhauler.

Kennedy Recommends running a filter magnet on the FUEL FILTER. and after seeing my old injectors i understand why, they were absolutely full of iron particle rust.

He says the problem is the fuel stations, many of their tanks are full of rust and it eventually gets past the filters as the fuel is continually recirculated and polished.

The lly is a solid motor. Things I did to my 05 for towing my toy hauler/performance was a cold air intake, lbz turbo mouth piece, 4” exhaust, Kennedy diesel fan clutch w/new thermostats, banks economind tuner, and added Firestone airbags with the on board air kit. Lly’s run hot, the mods above help keep temps in check. Also pulled out the cooling stack and rinsed behind the radiator/Transvcooler/etc and got all the leaves bugs and crap that restrict air flow. The truck has been great. I’ve got an Inglewood trans build coming soon along with new downtime and fass fuel pump in the future. You’ve got a good looking truck man🍻

I had the iDash in my old truck and just put the CTS3 in this one. Still have to install a few more sensors. I'll be adding the egt probe, and sensors to monitor lift pump psi and engine oil temperature. The can is just so you get a size reference 👍

Thanks man! I'm sure a trans will be in my future as well. This has a lot of the same upgrades as yours and still have a pile of parts to install including l5p oil cooler, fass, kryptonite front end, removing cat & efi live from starlite diesel so I can ditch the hypertech. Towed my trailer with it this morning and did well but the power difference from my lmm to this is very noticeable.

My truck has an edge, it's nice to watch EGT and Boost when climbing grades.

Also it has warning alarms for temps etc that are configurable. Definitely nice to see the extra information
