ordering a party barge 22 xp3 (24'2") I can get it with 150hp 4 stroke or verado 200hp besides the added COST ($5,000.) not sure which to get ? any input from the experts. this would be my first toon.

I am not a huge fan of the Merc Outboards, especially the Verados. Alot of my offshore fishing buddy's have had major issues with Verados.
If I had to choose, then I would go with the 150 hp, because it will most likely be alot more reliable.

I would recommend Yamaha Outboards, rock solid, hold there value, simple to work on, etc etc etc. Spare parts are very easy to get. I have 2 - 2006 Yamaha 250hp with 2100 hours on them.. Nothing ever breakers, fuel, filters, oil changes, and impeller changes... Drive the shit out of them.

Regardless of what you choose, make sure you have a dealer than can help you when you need parts/service, without parts/service, then you will have a problem on your hands.

But thats my opinion.

Ditch the Merc 4stroke and find a boat that's offered with an E-tec
