Is there a downside to glassing in the rear floor rather than bolting it in like it was from the factory?

I have the same boat. My floor is currently out and I have new peices cut, but our of full sheets with the thought of glassing it all in for a more solid ride and less chance of rot. Like yours, the rear deck was bolted and consisted of 3 peices, with a strip in front of the engine. I know I need clearance in front of the engine, but I want to make sure I am not overlooking some other reason for the bolted in floor.

I bolted the rear sides in for quick removal. The left side has cables under it and had an electric diverter box. Pretty sure that’s why the factory didn’t glass it in.

If I ever need to do anything to the engine I believe removing the side floors would help gain access.

I think if I were to do it again I would make the two sides and the front strip on piece but still bolt them in.

The boat it pretty stout as it is. Not sure how much it would help to if you were to glass the rear on as well.

My diverter motor is back by the blower and I have nothing under there, but I think I will bolt it or maybe tab it in just in case I need access in the future. I am putting a thru-hull transducer in and would need access then or if I ever need to change motor mounts.

Going to be updating thread. Because last May I was running up river in Needles and sucked up a bag. It caused the engine to overheat. So I yanked the engine out and sent it to Barry at Obnoxious Racing. We kept the long block with the same specs but went completely through it and sent everything out to be checked. I sent the heads off to Clay Smith to have them checked and massaged. I went full roller valve train and changed the intake as I wanted 600hp. It has been sitting in my garage on a stand since August. And now it’s time to do it all over again.

This go around I will replace the gauges,lights, switches, wiring, steering wheel and steering cable.

Boat looks great. I had Craig do the CF numbers and he did a fantastic job. I’m going to have him do the name too, whenever I can figure that out.

Top notch restoration! Did floors and tons more on my 79 Eliminator. I had a tighter budget.

Here’s a few more. A couple of it before it went to poncho for gel coat. He did a great job matching original. My dad had it built by pro stock boats I believe out of Downey or paramount. They used a Taylor mold. Used original 460 that was in it and Barry from obnoxious built it to a 546. Dynoed right under 600 hp. Great guy to work with. Pulled the panther jet befor gel and glasses in back. Greg at GS put in a Berkeley. New stringer, bulkheads , imco tanks, wiring, left off the bow rail and fiberglass windshield. The only original parts is the ski tow on back. Capped the back. Eliminator installed stainless rub rail. First year out on the 10 freeway headed to Parker Weber bbq lid flew out and hit the deck👎🏻. Two trips later went to havasu super crowded launched off of a wakeboard wake and cracked the deck. 😤. All fixed now. Fun boat that I grew up on since I was born. Good runner. Jet and motor combo not fun at the pump.

While the engine will be buttoned up in a week.

I am focusing on re doing the original interior. The wood is in really good shape for its age. The rear jump seats may have to be redone but that’s about it.

I am going to go with the original color vinyl which is pearl white and medium blue piping.

I need to find a wholesaler for the material then the pieces are going to TJ. I have a driver of mine that lives down there and his uncle is a really good upholstery guy. I have seen pics of his work and it’s clean. And the price is crazy low.

I will also redo the floor and ski locker. The floor is bolt in and will be a breeze.
Notched main stringers?

Alot of these boats came out of the Eliminator factory with that notched main stringer for some reason. The boat is actually on a vdrive trailer and when my uncle bought it brand new the guy at Eliminator fired it up on the hose and said here is your warranty.

Probably easier access to starter,etc. Picture my 79 eliminator 21ft. twin step. Before custom built motor mounts, and new floor ,carpet.

Looks gorgeous. Looking for a shop to repair some fiberglass and Gelcoat in the so cal area. Could you proved some contact info for Poncho? Shop Name/Location?

I am looking for a windshield "venturi windscreen" for my twin step Eliminator. Used ok, or nominal price for new one. Smoke,orange ,red.

What first class floor rebuild! I learned a few things. But I already replaced my floor , carpet. 79 Eliminator-same boat.One difference, I cut ski locker and fitted it . Nice job! Yes I did low budget, Not as clean as boat you have.

I need some motivation here. Life got in the way and have been busy with my company. Time to get back at it. The most recent upgrade has been a manual diverter installed by Prime Marine. It was previously set in one position after the factory electric diverter broke.

I need to put the engine Barry built in the boat as it’s been sitting in my garage for several years now.

Here is the diverter handle set up.
