Yes, the engine is a 454 mark IV built by Gale Banks originally twin turbo with a 3 speed turbo 400 trans
She has been in Lake Arrowhead all her life with the occasional trip to the river to shake her out.
Picture at Havasu around 1988.

What is the red in the bilge and on the stringers? Is that paint or gel? Looks great!

Thank you for asking,
It is gelcoat. Actually that is red tooling gelcoat.
Everything block sanded and gel filled to a final coat sealed and wet dry sanded and polished.

Love the color combo. Is that original? The shine looks better than new. And how big are those tanks?

I have this same motor and set up waiting for a boat to install it in. How well does this motor and turbo set up work in your Howard. Are you happy with it. I would guess it puts out about 600 H/P. Is that right. Thanks

I remember the day she was delivered to lake Arrowhead and up until then nobody had witnessed a monster like she was. A picture sits somewhere in memory at the north shore marina because see was running well into the 90’s MPH back then. Banks had her dynode at 849
HP. Still considered by many as the fastest boat ever put on Arrowhead.
No drags today but in her twilight still very very fast.
In those days this engine had Ratjay turbos and no wastegates so she gave it all to you and it was up to you to quit before she came apart or something else.
The howard 20’-6” day cruiser is unmatched in rough water performance and a great ride.

We stayed with the original colors except we added an orange and green out stripe. The tanks glasses into the hull deck are 20 gal per side. We discontinued the use of those tanks and had a couple of gunnel tanks built to fit in that are 18 aside. Pics do not show them installed yet.

i am thinking about changing out my fiberglass tanks do you have any pictures of your saddle tanks installed and was there any reason you did that instead of putting in aluminum replace mints in the old ones ?
