I bought my Hallett 2 years ago. I was very happy to find an open bow even though it was in Southern California. I live in Reno and you just don't see these boats. Here it is the day I bought it.

The trailer was in bad shape and was happy to make it home. Upon further inspection when I got home I new I had to get a new trailer and fast.

So my first upgrade was a new trailer. No choices in my area and the closest I could find was SB trailers in Patterson CA. So I decided on them and started to drive it down and it lost a bearing and ended up trashing the whole wheel hub. This happened outside of Sacramento and was only 2 hours from my house. So $700 and two weeks later I finally got to take it to get the trailer.

My next upgrade were some basic upgrades to the stock 454 it came with. Just an intake and new carb. Not too exciting. I did have the Berkley JG completely rebuilt with all the goodies with a droop and ride plat and a stainless A ready for the motor upgrade to happen a year later.

My next upgrade had to be the scuffed up bottom. This boat was used on the river in Southern California and it showed.

So my next thing I had to do was get the bottom re-gelled. I found a guy in my area that is a boat specialist and did a nice job in fixing the bottom.

The boat at this point is a great boat and could of been left alone. I said no.

I also had an Advantage offshore boat at the time for cruising Lake Tahoe. I ended up selling it but kept the motor I had built for it. The motor is a 555 with a Callies crank and I beam rods that is studded on the bottom end. The block is a bowtie block that was filled with 10.25:1 forged pistons that had the skirts coated.

The engine came with a decent roller hydraulic cam and iron 088 heads. In this configuration it made some decent power.

I cannot leave anything alone and had the opportunity to get a set of Brodix BB2 CNC's with Jesel shaft rockers. So this upgrade required me to stud the top end as I could find a set of ARP head bolts that would fit. I also got the matching Brodix intake. I also painted the heads the same as the block so they look like iron heads.

The engine in this configuration pushed my 30ft offshore boat to 61 mph on Lake Tahoe (6200 ft elevation).

I finally got around to installing this engine this year and ended up buying a nice rail kit from Jet Boat Performance and had it powder coated.

The rail kit caused many issue going from a basic 3 point stock setup. The alternator was one of the biggest issues but I finally got it figured out after a few weeks of gettig frustrated

My boat has a dog house with the 2 seats in the back. I have to keep this configuration as I have 3 younger kids and this is one of their favorite part of the boat. I have to say I like it too. This caused an issue because I have to run log exhaust. This of course caused issue with the rail kit and had to end up having to grind out the rear plate to accommodate the exhaust.

I also upgraded the drive shaft to a 1550 and the wiring was pretty much kept the way it was but put on a metal mount.

I have started it a few time to get it timed and carb tuned in so I have not had a chance yet to take it out. I am hoping to embarrass some of the "hot boats" in my area. I am done for now and going to just enjoy it.

Nice set of upgrades, the boat looks great. Looks like your going to have a great summer.

I remember your thread looking for trailer shop that wasn't in Havasu or LA. Are you happy with the SB trailer?

I am very happy with the trailer. It was a total custom trailer with a lot add on's you can get. Plus they have a paint book 6 inches high you can pick from.

That trailer looks awesome. I also have a Hallett Super Sport open bow, but mine is a v drive. They are great hulls, built like a tank. It’s a great Hull right up to 80mph, then it gets a bit sketchy without a lot of work. Mine started out as a hard deck and was converted to open bow by Cole Boats a long time ago. You’ve done a great job with yours.

A little trick with the snells!!

where ur exh hose hooks up jus in front of that there’s that big shoulder the the hump starts!!

the shoulder should be 4” dia!
ive cut off the small dia with a sawzall then potted out the inside bigger!! Got new 4” hose and 4” stainless outlets and ditched the trumpets!!

it will let it breathe a little better!!

plus ur carb flame arrester. U can take out some of the screen and will breathe better with that big inch engine
