I just now saw this! That car will need 5k in replacing all the normal wear items that will be bad. Then the new trans, and then diagnose the check engine light and fix that.

So, if he pays to have it towed to me, I'll take it!

Probably a transmission. Chase down the vacuum leaks, change out the crankcase ventilation system parts and a fresh battery will most likely cure the dash lights. Been there done that on the dash lights.

The straight coupe body would be worth some money to the right person.

can you post how much it sells for when he gets rid of it. I am always curious how much project cars like this actually sell for. To the very right person its worth some money but does that ever happen?
