Ran to where my air compressor had been in storage and hauled it to the new shop.

It's an old rol-aire. Leroi 2 stage pump, 175psi and 120 gallon tank. She makes quite the breeze. ;)

I have come to the conclusion, that you prefer to work on boats, than to drive them...

You should try driving them for a change, most people think its alot more fun, than working on them... Especially in the summer time..

No I dont want to hear any excuses like
My dog ate my sand paper, or
My house burned down, or
Stupid shit like someone stole all my tools...

Just saying... driving boats is far better than working on them...

It's a fuckin hotrod. 23' that drives and rides like a 27-30'er....

I can't explain it via words. You need to ride on it. At 65 you have no idea you're going over 40...

Its smoother, quieter, and faster than any 2 stroke ever ...

Boat looks real good at speed. Hows the water pressure? I'm thinking you can raise that big bad white motha another inch.

The water pressure is LOW.. I'm constantly getting tossed to guardian...

It's a careful balance for sure.

Pin the throttle and trim it to the moon is not a suggested mode of operation with this deal. It likes just a tick above neutral trim and a tad more jackplate.. .

Just ran @ 72ish on glass in the rain
Poptart never got her hair wet. ;).

This boat is a fucking riot...

Replaced the starboard side interior panel. The old one had a cutout for the cable style throttle and shift levers.

Finished the rigging. I used 2/0 for battery cables, and feeding it fuel with a 1/2" line.

This was the night before a "lunch run" on the weekend of the 4 horseman poker run here in oshkosh.

Friday morning of the 4 horseman.
I took it to the water around 730 a.m. still had to finish bleeding the power steering, and a shakedown run. I bled the steering at the ramp. The electric pump starts 5 seconds after the engine starts running. As long as you're quick to keep the reservoir full, it's a really simple operation. A few cycles of turning it lock to lock, I could hear that there wasnt any more air in the system.

Ran it around a little bit in the bay out in front of the house, and brought it to my dock. Seems everything checks out so far.

Break in according to the manual says keep rpms at 4500 and limit wot to 1 minute every 10 for the first 2 hours.

Came back home and put it on the lift. Drove my pickup back to dockside tavern where the friday night festivities happen.
20190607_152823.jpg

It takes 40 minutes including idling out of my channel to being tied up at the docks on the east side of oshkosh. By the time I returned from stockbridge to home, my first 2 hours of break in were completed.

Having a beer with Rick Mackie.

I put a 25 3 blade fury on it to start, as that's what I ran on the opti. It was "ok" at best. Basically on the limiter, was easy to blow out while getting on plane. A labbed 26 bravo was a big upgrade. It's on the limiter right at 80, showing 18% slip.

A few weeks later a couple wheels showed up to go and try...
20190630_175730.jpg

The one in the top of the pic is a 26 maximus, the other a 25 max 5.

We weren't sure if the 400 would pull the big ass 26... it's a YUUUUGE prop...

I'll be damned if it did.
Ran 80 at 6660.
23488.jpeg

The 25 max 5 ran slightly better at the same rpm and 81.
23498.jpeg

I liked the feel of the maximus over the max 5.

Now were going to run a 24 maximus to see about getting the rpms back up to 7k.

There. Thread is now caught up to being current.

Only took a little more than "2 weeks". :)

Looks great!! Does this 400 like the bigger diameter props or is it just the V8's ?
We're still sorting that all out. Having the jackplate is a great advantage. Boat sure seems to like 1.75 above bottom. I do not have to lower it to get on plane. I bought some go pro knock offs on Amazon and haven't even tried using them yet. I need to get a suction cup mount, then I'll try and get some video of the gearcase at speed. :)

Gonna be an awesome boat. Do you have the 1 piece prop shaft or the pile of shit 2 piece? If its 2 piece, make SURE you only run Merc props, have receipts for when it breaks, not if.

It was suggested that I take data every 500 rpm or so.

Note the ecogps reading on the right side of the screen....
Over 5 mpg putzing along at 35mph!

3mpg at 65!!! Wow! Midrange cruise is awesome!
This is the 24 maximus. Fuel tank is full at 55 gallons. All the crap on board. Not looking for a huge top end number. Just normal boating.

So the best GPS speed you have seen so far is 81mph. Interesting.

My guess is it'll wring out at 83.

Went 81 with over 25 gallons in the tank, all the normal boating shit on board. Anchor, 4 big ass fenders, 2 pillows and 2 blankets in the cabin, small tool kit in the bench seat. Theres lots of extra "stuff" in the boat. I'm sure if I pulled all that shit out and ran it in fumes with literally me and a life jacket on board I'd pick up an easy 3mph.

I dont really give 2 shits about the big end "number". I want it propped correctly, continue to have fantastic handling characteristics, and enjoy a wonderfully long range. :)

It's pretty easy to cover 100 miles here in a day. To go all weekend without filling up the tank makes for a helluva good weekend of boating!

Sounds fantastic Hula!!! What kind of wind chop is it happy in? I'm sure you can slow way down, put the nose in the air, & get thru almost anything. Great boat, congrats

Right? Comparatively, the best I observed with the 250xs was 4ish mpg at around 45 mph.

I'm digging it for sure!

It loves a 1' chop. Been thru all sorts of cruiser wake washing machine stuff and it skips over the top at 55-60. Slower it gets rougher. Folks out east rave that it's a rough water boat. I can't find anything to disprove that.

All my speed #'s have been literally on piss flat, glass conditions. Sticky water.
That type of water will also magnify hull deficiencies and weird handling characteristics. String straight, no chine walk, nothing weird. With the 26 bravo, I'd over trim it, to get the rpms up, then it would take some sawing on the wheel. With the 24 maximus, I'd let anyone drive it to 70 no problem.

So pissed my schedule will not allow a visit this trip.
Would of loved to fill the gas tank (1, 5g container at a time) or at the marina for you and taken a tour.

This is likely the last time I bring my daughter to Chicago to visit my dad and step-mom. Not 1 photo of me or my dads only granddaughter. All photos are of my dads second family. Not sitting well with me. I should of gone north to start and just spent the 4th through 7th with them and taken my daughter north to see family. However, before this trip, I wanted my daughter to know all her grandparents, not feeling the same after 3 days with them!

Robert, there's always a spot here for ya. When your schedule allows, itll happen. ;)
Bummed to read about the family stuff. Some folks just dont get it. Hopefully it doesn't affect how your daughter feels about the midwest.

Figured I'd better update this here.
20191027_140231.jpg

26p maximus short tube.
Ran it back to back with a bone stock example.
Gained 4 mph over the standard version.
The longer tube is added drag, and does not allow as much trim.

If I can get my hands on a labbed version, that'll give me the last 300 rpms, and maybe 2 more mph.....

Holy shit batman.....

What prop did you end up liking better - the Max5 or Maximus? I think I read you cut off the diffuser on the Maximus? Is it the same length as the Max5?
