Looking to building a 24 Schiada V-Drive. Would want it to do between 110-120mph but was wondering how much horsepower it would take to push a v-drive to those speeds. 1200? 1500? Anybody with high HP 24's please help!!

Linder has the only one that fast until Matts is done. 1600 plus at least. They are heavy.

What kind of numbers will his 24 put up? How much HP? Outdrive or V-Drive?

V drive. I'm saying 1600 or so hp and somewhere around the 120 mark. That's as specific as I can be. Maybe Steve or Racey will chime in.

I've been in Linders boat with 5 people on Parker and we never wound it all the way out.. GPS Recall said 116 at the end of the ride.. I believe his is about 1400 HP.

At those horsepower levels, are there any turnkey engines that arent mercury racing? When I say turnkey I mean start everytime, run with no problems, and only require periodic maintenance.

That doesn't even occur with Merc power. The 1350/1550 motors have very short lives between rebuild intervals.

You don't build these motors without constantly maintaining them. The cheap part is buying them. Maintaining to make sure you have a rebuildable block is where the fun starts.

Brumett twin turbo. Get in line and you better have deep pockets. those things just run and run and run though and are as close to turn key as you're going to get.

Brummett is 100k+ range on a new twin turbo (motor only ) ( like Linders schiada and Murrays Nordic )
If your looking for turn key and little maintanence on a 120 mph 24ft v drive good luck, lol

Brummett or Alexi ( along with a handful of others ) is the way to go in those type set ups. But you don't buy a NASCAR and expect it to be able to be maintained like your daily driver

Hope your ready to drop 250k range on a lifestyle toy that will take 2 years + to get new. :)
But then again in 20-40 years it will still be a bad ass boat, unlike other manufactures that will be worth pennies to the dollar

What kind if power and speed does Lynch have and run in his 21? Isn't it like 1300 and about 112? If that's anywhere near accurate I'd imagine a 24 with a standard lay-up would take 1500 at LEAST to get to 110.

Lynches is one of if not the heaviest 21 laid up.

Bucket list boat would be a 24 vdrive with a brumett TT or one of Alexis compound deals. Either one of those would make me happy.

I've wondered for quiet a while why you never see NRE making (or at least nobody using them) boat engines.

Not sure if this will add any to the discussion but in late 1970 Leonard built my dad and I the first flat deck (wood) Schiada 24 for offshore racing. To check the top speed accurately, we would run the boat inside the Long Beach breakwater over the measured nautical mile markers on the breakwater. Our best average speed was 81.1 mph with 40 gallons of fuel onboard and a two person load. That was with a 600 Hp Pfaff 468 c.i. BBC Chevy, 12.5:1 compression on race gas. The V-drive had 15% overdrive and the prop was a 14.5 pitch x 11-3/4 inch diameter. Max rpm was 6,250. If you do the math, that is approximately 83% efficiency or 17% slip factor. Pretty fast for 47 years ago.

Linder's was about 1400 hp. I have personally driven it 115 mph. He is redoing the rear end (again) and bumping the HP. I would be willing to bet it will top 120 fairly easily.

1478 HP / upgrades should top 1700HP

119 MPH best.

600HRS, replaced rocker arms, injectors at 300hrs. Oil/filter changes every 10hrs. We ski a lot at Lake Mead, 99% of hrs less than 60mph. Leakdown at 600hrs showed minimal deviation, even Carson laughed at the time on it.

I would love to see a #6 drive on a pad bottom 24 with a Brummett TT or a Boostpower setup. It will still be 25+ mph slower than a Nordic Cyclone(Aussie clones) or similar ski race rig.

If you're truly looking for a 120mph top end, I would think your set-up would look something like this: 40% overs in the V-drive, 16 pitch prop and spinning the engine at 6,500 rpm. If you could get in the 14 to 15% slip range you'd be at the 120 goal. Probably better think about using a two-speed tranny too.

Dam that's crazy power! And 600 hrs shows you use it! I guess the saying you get what you pay for is true! Awesome ride[emoji119][emoji869]

You're an arrowhead guy right? Drool over your boat every time we pass it in North bay! So basically your Brummett is turnkey only requirinig periodic service, or did I miss something?

Only twice a year.

Thank you, it is my ultimate dream boat.

Yes, by Racey and Carson.

or did I miss something?

It cant compete with your sig boat.\, but my 24 has a stereo, berber carpet, seats 5, and you can sleep under the deck.

You didn't miss anything. Do yourself a favor, get in line, be patient, have your check book ready, use Carson for your power, and for sure do his turbo motor set up. Carson has done a grip of motors for me and I broke everything else but his motors. Go into this Knowing things can break but Carson you'll feel most confident.

Good luck that will be one hell of a boat.

Never heard that one before....:eek

...someone told me it was 115mph and 1300hp, but that was 5 years ago, so 122 and 1600 is appropriate appreciation.

I had no idea that a Schiada appreciates in value and hp. Learn something every day

This is one of the most entertaining threads I have read this year.

If the amount of actual correct fact could be pulled from this thread you'd likely end up with only 3 or 4 posts, mine being one of them.

Great stuff guys, keep it coming!:):):)

They require a massive amount of torque. Pay more attention to torque. Big gear and torque and they run in those speeds with an internal rudder with a real 14-1500ft lbs or maybe a tic less. Setup is everything and commitment to it which is even more important[emoji469][emoji1303]

Calling Dave Connolly!

He had a bunch of HP and ran in the 120s in a 21ft boat.
