We are the third owners of the boat. The second owners were the Corrigans who bought it from the Herbst had it painted when they owned it. It still looks good but could use minor repair work.

Thanks Troy

It looks like a Herbst boat with the red & black.
I had a Spectra XS with that same interior setup.

Again, nice boat and good luck selling it.

What transmission does it have?

What speeds are you seeing as-is with a light load?

You mention it's got a 502... any idea who did that install and when? Do you have any under the hatch pics?

Thank you!

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for you interest in the boat. Below are the answers to your questions:

What transmission does it have?
The boat currently has a Velvet drive in it.

What speeds are you seeing as-is with a light load?
My family and I used the boat for play skiing so the way it is set up it will run in the 60 mph Range if I had to guess. It was our family cruiser so we rarely had it that fast.

You mention it's got a 502... any idea who did that install and when? Do you have any under the hatch pics?
The boat originally had a Gale Banks Turbo set up on it when the Herbst first built it. I assume Banks built the engine then. By the time we got the boat it had a pretty stock 502 with a single carb on it and it is currently in that configuration. Ill try and get an under the hatch pic later today.
Thanks
Troy

Troy,

Thank you for the answers. Any guess as to how many hours are on the 502?

I've got a 74' 24XS (Chevy) and a buddy of mine has a 76' 24XS (Ford). I know of two people that are in the market for this boat and will pass along the info when I see them next... they aren't really "hip" to the interweb yet so I'll have to sit them down and babysit them.

Hi Jeff,
If I had to guess there is probably a couple hundred hours on it. The last time we had it out, it ran great doesnt burn oil and just never misses a beat. Ill see if I can get an exact number and some engine photos for you.

Thanks!

If there are no accurate hour meter sourced numbers I wouldn't sweat it. While an exterior shot of the engine doesn't show any internal wear and tear it can show how well (or poorly) the boat was maintained. I saw a Schiada last year for sale and the owner proclaimed it had a "low hour" engine. Ha! Some of the ground wires were spliced off a splice off a T covered in duct tape. That says more to me about the shape of things than hours. If that Schiada owner could allow his boat to hit the water wired like that I doubt he cared too much about things like oil changes.

There is a Howard I/O next door right now with 124 original hours. I am pretty sure it's an 83' but one thing I do know is it has been well kept by the owner since new. You can look at the Howard and see that it's in great shape, the low hours are just bragging rights. The guys I know realize an early 70's boat may require a little work to get how they want it. As long as the 502 runs well enough to finish up this season I don't think either one of them is too concerned about the hours.

Aloha

Hi,
I just checked and there is an hour meter but we never hooked it up HAHA. I found out from my dad that when we bought the boat he rebuilt the engine himself. He runs the R&D department at Edelbrock and has been building race engines for 35 years. There are many guys that can vouch for him including Carson Brummett, Billy Dunsmore, Ron Shaver, Barry Obler just to name a few. Honestly the boat has been sitting for a couple years since it was last out. I am sure with 1 afternoon we can have it running perfectly again. As far as hours go, my dad said he would gues around 200 hours on it. Those are light hours as well since we only play skiid behind it. it is a good solid boat and it has many years of great use ahead of it. The only reason we are selling it is because we just dont use it anymroe since my brother and I both have our own boats now. Give me a call and we can discuss further if your guys are interested. We are also negotiable on the price.

Thanks!

Troy,

Where can the boat be looked at? You said it's been sitting for a while... if I bring down a fake-a-lake will she fire up as-is or will some work be required to hear it run? I see some wood grain damage... any other areas of concern as far as the cosmetics go? Any hull damage? Is there anything you can think of that isn't shown in the pictures that might be a downer to see in person?

Thanks again,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Im sure I can get her to fire up with a few hours of minor tune up work. The only real damage besides minor scuffs/ blemishes is the clear coat peeling on the wood grain. The wood itself is in good shape. There is no hull damage that I know of. The boat is located in Torrance, CA and can be looked at whenever.

Thanks
Troy

So your dad is finally selling that boat? I can't believe it, I thought he would hold on to it for a long time. It's a great boat, bummer to see it go.
