New 2750 NuEra build is underway. This boat will be a mid cabin open bow powered by a Mercury Racing 565 and ITS.
It is the customers second Lavey. They owned the latest 24 NuEra open bow we built and decided to upgrade to a bigger boat with more power!

Hand drawing render provided by customer

You know you did something right when a customer comes back and buys another, bigger, badder version.

Appears that they know what they want when it comes to gel if they submitted that drawing spec'd out well. Better than most I am sure 👍

That‘s a great setup. That hull and power combo is a reliable bullet proof Combo. Is the owner trading in his 24 to be sold by Lavey?

You’ve no idea!
I love customer sketches vs a computer rendering by some guy trying to interpret someone else’s thoughts.

This gave me some room to play.
Then the customer got to review my lines.
He wanted a few changes.
Made changes, sent pics and was given the green light.

Spraying the “windshield/simulated window” is a bit of a bitch on the 2750, very narrow area to work in. The rest is a great canvas to pull off and accentuate some great lines.

I prefer to do as many of the gel design drawings by hand rather than the computer renderings. My opinion, all the computer renderings have become to all look alike.
Another benefit why I like to do all the drawings by hand is I actually know every body line on the boats so I can make certain lines flow nicely even on a 2D drawing.
I also like to make a drawing and then tell the gelcoater to add his own flair to it. Not all the customers I’ve drawn for have gone for that idea haha

Here are a few pictures during our vacuum bag core lamination process.
This process is different to vacuum infusion. Short explanation of the steps involved of this process go as follows; the lamination that bonds the core is wetted out, then the balsa is placed on top of it, you then cover it all with a thick plastic material and seal all edges, hook up the vacuum hoses, open the valve to introduce the vacuum through the hoses... You then constantly monitor the machine and gauge to ensure vacuum pressure is still in range, check for leaks in the bag, and wait for the resin to cure/harden.

It's pretty big process but well worth it in the uniform structural integrity compared to "standard" hand lamination of the core material. Lavey Craft has over 15 years experience doing this. One huge benefit of doing this is to eliminate all voids between the lamination and the core material. The biggest benefit of this process in our opinion at Lavey Craft is that the resin actually gets pulled through all of the balsa core making it stronger throughout the entire core. There are many different methods but we are very confident in the process we use. This would be the same process we use on all of our offshore race boats and we have not broken a boat.

Full length stringers are in, 112 gallon fuel tank is in, bottom bulkheads, open bow floor board is in.
Deck and hull are ready to put together.
We bond our boats while they are still in the mold. You won't find very many manufactures that build their boats this way... By doing this process you ensure the boat is as straight and true as the mold and you prevent the twisting and contorting of the deck while flipping it over out of the mold.
If you look at the flange of our molds you will see "keys" that ensure the hull/deck line up perfectly every time. Once the deck/hull molds are together we get inside the boat and bond the cockpit liner to the stringers and also bond the seam all the way around.

Here we are flipping the deck mold over, with the boat still inside, in order to bond deck/hull together.

This 2750 NuEra has been born!
Gel coat design looks amazing and compliments the lines of the boat very well!

Once again, you'll notice how we bond the deck/hull while it is still in the mold and the boat comes out as one piece rather than two separate.

Looks great. It is almost identical to the green 2018 24' you guys have in used inventory. One of my favorite gel schemes.

Yes, almost identical.
It is the same customer. He sold his 24 to upgrade to a bigger boat. Wanted a very similar gel scheme with blue instead of green.

Oh OK! That makes sense. Both boats look great.

Hey Peter how about we both sell our 496’s and we split the 565? You can use it December through January and I’ll use it the rest of the year!! LMAO

Boat is getting close. Engine and outdrive our mounted, wiring is done. Waiting on Seadek, interior, and deck hardware. Hope to be on the water in a couple weeks. We did something a little bit different with the cockpit on this boat. Customer wanted bigger access to the under deck and also be able to see under there while driving if the kids are down there.

Here’s a few pictures during the final rigging assembly stage. First mid cabin open bow 2750 that got full Seadek treatment in the mid cabin and also the open bow area. For the stereo this boat has Fosgate head unit, speakers, and 12” subwoofers with JL audio amps.

I'm always impressed to see el Jefe in there getting his hands dirty... and not just a photo op!

Got a chance to run the boat.
Conditions were lets just say... Less than ideal. Weather was nasty and it was 112 degrees out with higher than usual humidity and glass calm water.

First run I was able to get the boat to 80mph on the rev limiter spinning a Mercury Max5 28 pitch.
I'm hoping to get a chance to test it one more time before the customer picks it up.

More pictures to follow!

The big hatch is bitchin and although Imo slightly less cool looking but way more usable than the standard hatch with molded scoops. The side intakes are def cool.

Easy in and out of the cuddy and a lot of room to stretch out during a day on the far side of the lake and classic 2750 chop handling that laughs at the Colorado chains windy afternoon returns.

Nice piece here, interestingly tuned for long day trips.

Update on the water testing. I just got back to the shop from the lake. I’m very happy to report that today the boat ran 85 MPH! In our opinion it is a very respectable number for an open bow and fully loaded with options and big stereo, it’s not a super light boat by any means. For the numbers people here are the current engine/RPM/speed stats: Mercury 565, ITS with standard bravo 1 (not sport master), stock 28 pitch Bravo1 propeller, 5263 RPM, 85 MPH.

I also did not hold it wide open for very long for 2 reasons; 1 I ran out of safe space, 2 it’s the second water test and I’d rather do that with the customer present giving me the ok to squeeze every last MPH out of it. With more prop testing and more water space I think it’ll run over 85 MPH.

Hello Dave hope you 2 are good. Yep thats what I met as well engine has to breath in some good clean air. Side hull air intakes added. Also easy to climb in and out of the back end of the boat with the engine hatch straight across - ( no upward air vents on the engine hatch ) just saying. I also like the engine hatch air intake vents. The only thing wrong with those is you have tall people sitting in front of them - then those people block that air path into the engine.

IMO its a good option to have for the buyer - bigger flat engine hatch pad or the race sport vents on the hatch. Great option again for the buyer. I like it

Hey John ! hope you are well.

All the guys out here know this, but midwesterners and East coasters dont usually boat the same way. Mid cabin open bows work exceptionally well out West in the Colorado chain of lakes.

What happens here is that you dont beach all the time because beaches are rare and rocky vs the midwest where lakes have grassy and smooth beaches - you anchor in a cove for a day and the boat itself becomes you beach/ swim platform.

Spaces out of direct sunlight become valuable so you want a Bimini you can walk around under and the mid cabin extends covered space.

The beam length swim step gets fully used as does the hatch for laying out to dry setting a cooler, speakers "stuff" after a swim. A split swim step isn't as usable.

Having all that room front to back and having it be easy to get in and out of of with big opening to move air through is killer.
