So did everyone’s 401k’s Rate of Return tank the last quarter? I was thinking it’s most likely common due to an election year

11.3% for a quarter is pretty good. 43% for the year including the Covid panic draw down in March is pretty amazing. More stimulus coming from the Dems will end up helping the economy short term, but the Biden tax plan on doubling corporate tax will lower profits by double digits and stall the market around 2022/23 until hope of republican gov return.

I met +14% for the year and totally stocked. I retire in 10 years so I am a bit on the conservative side. I plan to get a lot more conservative when the Pedo starts raising taxes. To prepare, I pulled money out of the market end of 2020 and reinvested in brick and mortar RE. Good Luck in 2021.

I don’t have a 401K, but 2 funds that I hold are up about 25% last quarter.

I thought I was doing good at 18% year over year.
What did you guys invest in to get 40 or 80 percent returns?
Just curious.

Yeah I'd love to know the names of these funds. Those kinds of numbers are pretty hard to believe for a whole year.

145.405% from 3/30/2020 to 12/31/2020

No funds for me. All individual equities. This is just my wifes Roth IRA. I moved everything from Fidelity to TD Ameritrade 3/30/2020 so that is why the year starts in March. And no, none of that gain was from contributions. I havent been able to contribute in a number of years. I manage my own Roth IRA as well as 3 accounts I trade out of daily. Beating the market handily isnt that difficult with proper risk management and a borderline sick obsession with everything market related. I sit in front of a wall of screens all day and have a great network of very experienced people to bounce ideas off of. Although ive been managing our IRAs for several years im only in my 3rd year as a fulltime trader. Lots to learn still!

A couple positions in that account had been in there for a while. I accumulated quite a bit of MAXR in the 9s and 10s late 2019 and into 2020 and sold most in the high 20s...now its currently $49. Cant dwell on those $$$$$ left on the table though...you'll go crazy.

Here is a snapshot of what im currently holding in this same account. Im about 15% cash at the moment. I dont swing anything in my daily accounts. I like to be 100% cash at the end of each day.

How do you pay taxes on a 401K before you withdraw it?

So 4th quarter started off in the hole with the Dow at 30k. If you only gained 15% in the 4th quarter you probably aren’t even back to par. If you gained more than that you may have lost more than that in prior quarters. But I’m sure your broker said he made you 15%. Devils in the details.

401 guys are like gamblers, they only tell you about the wins.
